Kettle Moraine 100 Endurance Runs
The Kettle Moraine 100 is an ultramarathon held annually in early June in Kettle Moraine State Forest near La Grange, WI. The event includes a 100-mile race, a 100km race, and a 38-mile night "fun run." Course Description The 100-mile race consists of two out and back legs with the first round trip distance being 62.9 miles and the second being 37.3 miles. The 100km race follows the first 62.9 miles of the 100-mile race and the 38-mile night "fun run" follows the last 37.3 miles. Runners registered for the 100-mile race may drop at the 100km finish. The 100-mile course is run entirely on trails (except for a couple hundred feet of road crossings) and traverses the Ice Age Trail for about 65 miles. The trail is about 80% wooded terrain with the rest meandering through gentle prairie or marsh areas. An ultramarathon, also called ultra distance or ultra running, is any footrace longer than the traditional marathon length of . Kettle Moraine State Forest
The Kettle Moraine State Forest is a state forest in southeastern Wisconsin. The chief feature of the reserve is the Kettle Moraine, a highly glaciated area. The area contains very hilly terrain and glacial landforms, such as kettles, kames and eskers. The forest is divided into two large and three small units, which are spread across a hundred miles. The forest includes of hiking trails, almost of cross-country ski trails, of equestrian trails, of snowmobile trails, of off-road bicycle trails including of singletrack trail, and 750 campsites. All units include a portion of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail and most units have horse/snowmobile trails. Several areas of trail loops for hiking, biking and skiing can be found in the northern and southern units. Ice Age Trail
The Ice Age Trail is a National Scenic Trail stretching in the state of Wisconsin in the United States. The trail is administered by the National Park Service, and is constructed and maintained by private and public agencies including the Ice Age Trail Alliance, a non-profit and member-volunteer based organization with local chapters. Route The trail roughly follows the location of the terminal moraine from the last Ice Age. As the route traverses the moraine, it sometimes meanders into areas west of the moraine, including the Driftless Area in southwestern Wisconsin. The trail passes through 30 of Wisconsin's 72 counties, from the northwestern part of the state to the Lake Michigan shoreline in the east. Kami Semick
Kami Semick is an American ultramarathon runner based in Bend, Oregon who was a two-time UltraRunner of the Year and USATF’s Ultra Runner of the Year in 2009 and 2010. She ran collegiately with the University of Alabama and transitioned to ultramarathons in her 30s and came in second with a time of 4:54 in the Siskyou Out Back 50k, second in 4:54. Her ultra career went on to include five wins at the Miwok 100K Trail Race, a fourth place finish at the 2006 Western States 100, first female and third overall at the 2010 Vermont 100. Internationally, she won the 2009 IAU 100K World Cup in Belgium, the IAU 50K World Championship in Gibraltar and was involved with the creation of the North Face Tea Horse Trail Running Expedition.
