Ketti, also called Ketti Valley, is a small town nestled in a large valley of the same name. It is located in The Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu State, South India and is a Revenue Village of Coonoor Taluk. Upper Ketti is another village called Yellanahalli, which is located on the main Coonoor to Ooty road. History Ketti which received 82 cm on 8 November 2009 (Depression ARB/03 or intensified Cyclone Phyaan ) is the record holder for highest rainfall registered in 24 hours in Tamil Nadu. Geography The valley is the last major valley in route to Ooty along the Ooty-Coonoor highway. However, due to the extensive development of the valley in the recent years, the fauna present here has dwindled to a select few. Culture The people present here are mostly Badaga and Tamils with certain immigrants from other parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka. The Laidlaw Memorial School of St. George's Homes, Ketti is an English-medium school in Ketti, Tamil Nadu, India. This school also appeared in the Tamil film, ''Panneer Pushpangal''. Mark Alexander Wynter-Blyth, Mark Alexander Wynter Blyth M.A.(Cantab) was a House master of the Prep School then a Headmaster of The Laidlaw Memorial School in Ketti, Tamil Nadu from 1941. The school, then first recognized by the Education Department of Madras as a free primary school, was raised to the status of a high school in 1944 during his tenure. Previously he was a house master and the Headmaster at Bishop Cotton School, Shimla. A meeting with A. E. Jones (1877-1947), a well-known amateur naturalist in Shimla, led to an interest in butterflies. In 1941 he moved to the Nilgiris at Ketti. Later, he was the principal at Rajkumar College, Rajkot till his demise in 1963. Mettupalayam is a municipal town and headquarters of Mettupalayam taluk, Mettupalayam Taluk in the Coimbatore District of the Indian States and territories of India, state of Tamil Nadu. Nilgiri Mountain Railway
The Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR), colloquially called the "Toy Train" by locals, is a railway in Nilgiris district, Tamil Nadu, India, built by the British in 1908. The railway is operated by the Southern Railway and is the only rack railway in India. The railway relies on its fleet of steam locomotives. NMR switched to diesel locomotives on the section between Mettupalyam and Udhagamandalam. Local people and visitors led a campaign to return to steam locomotives in this section. In July 2005, UNESCO added the Nilgiri Mountain Railway as an extension to the World Heritage Site of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. The site then became known as Mountain Railways of India.
