Kermit A. Sande
Kermit A. Sande (born February 23, 1943) is an American politician and attorney in the state of South Dakota. He served as Attorney General of South Dakota from 1973 to 1975, as a Democrat. Education and career He attended South Dakota State University graduating in 1964 and University of South Dakota School of Law graduating in 1968. He was the Beadle County Attorney from 1970 to 1972. 1972 South Dakota Attorney General election Sande defeated Leonard Andera of Chamberlain; Pat Kirby of Mitchell and John Keller of Chamberlain at the Democratic convention. On April 5, 1972, Ron Schmidt announced he was running for the Republican nomination. Schmidt was nominated by the Republican party at its convention after an unsuccessful run for the nomination in 1970 against incumbent Attorney General Gordon Mydland. The Attorney General of South Dakota is the state attorney general of the U.S. state of South Dakota. The attorney general is elected by popular vote to a four-year term and holds an executive position as the state's chief legal officer. Huron, South Dakota
Huron is a city in Beadle County, South Dakota, United States. It is the county seat of Beadle County. The '' Huron Daily Plainsman'', also referred to as the ''Plainsman'', is the newspaper. The first settlement at Huron was made in 1880. The city was named after the Huron Indians. It is currently the eighth largest city in South Dakota, but it once was the fourth. In recent years, Huron's population has once again started to grow after nearly 20 years of stagnation. A welcoming immigration policy coupled with an economic revival in the area has sparked development. A Walmart Supercenter opened in the mid 2000s. Since Walmart's opening more commercial and residential development has occurred with the completion of a new Runnings store (retailer specializing in farm and fleet products), and many new apartments, twin homes and houses. Gordon James Mydland (May 12, 1922 – October 6, 2022) was an American attorney and politician who served as the Attorney General of South Dakota. He was also a state senator, and a circuit court judge. Early life and education Mydland was born on a farm near Hetland, South Dakota, on May 12, 1922. He attended South Dakota State University for a Bachelor of Science degree and the University of South Dakota School of Law for his LL.B degree. Career Prior to his election to the state senate, he was the County Attorney for Brookings County, South Dakota. He served in the South Dakota State Senate from 1963 to 1968 representing the 13th district (1963–66) and the 6th district (1967–68). He was also Attorney General of South Dakota from 1969 to 1973. William John Janklow (September 13, 1939January 12, 2012) was an American lawyer and politician and member of the Republican Party who holds the record for the longest tenure as Governor of South Dakota: sixteen years in office. Janklow had the third-longest gubernatorial tenure in post-Constitutional U.S. history at 5,851 days. Janklow served as the 25th Attorney General of South Dakota from 1975 to 1979 before serving as the state's 27th Governor from 1979 to 1987 and then the 30th Governor from 1995 to 2003. Janklow was then elected to the United States House of Representatives, where he served for a little more than a year.
