Kentucky Route 9 is a State highway (US), state highway maintained by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The highway extends from Grayson, Kentucky, Grayson to Newport, Kentucky, Newport (a city in Kentucky across the Ohio River from Cincinnati, Ohio), roughly paralleling the Ohio River between Vanceburg, Kentucky, Vanceburg and Newport. Most of its route, from Grayson to the Interstate 275 in Kentucky, Interstate 275 (I-275) loop in Wilder, Kentucky, Wilder, is part of the AA Highway, except for its northern which continues from the terminus of the AA Highway at I-275 into Newport. While KY 9 is not an expressway, it nonetheless serves as the shortest highway link between Cincinnati and Ashland, Kentucky. Most of the route is a rural two-lane highway. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is Kentucky's state-funded government agency, agency charged with building and maintaining U.S. Highway System, federal highways and List of primary state highways in Kentucky, Kentucky state highways, as well as regulating other transportation related issues. AA Highway
The AA Highway is a State highway (US), state highway maintained by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The mainline route parallels the Ohio River from Interstate 275 (Ohio–Indiana–Kentucky), Interstate 275 (I-275) in Wilder, Kentucky, Wilder to Vanceburg, Kentucky, Vanceburg; it is cosigned as Kentucky Route (KY 9). Kentucky Route 7 (KY 7) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Kentucky. Route description Kentucky Route 7 begins at a junction with KY 15 at Jeff in Perry County. The route continues through the cities of Blackey in Letcher County, Wayland in Floyd County, Salyersville in Magoffin County, West Liberty in Morgan County, Sandy Hook in Elliott County, Grayson in Carter County, and South Shore in Greenup County, where the route terminates at East First Avenue a short distance north of US 23. It originates at a junction with Kentucky Route 3, KY 3, one mile (1.6 km) east of Cadmus, Kentucky, Cadmus in Lawrence County, Kentucky, Lawrence County. Allegheny Escarpment
The Portage Escarpment is a major landform in the U.S. states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York which marks the boundary between the Till Plains to the north and west and the Appalachian Plateau to the east and south. The escarpment is the defining geological feature of New York's Finger Lakes region. Its proximity to Lake Erie creates a narrow but easily traveled route between upstate New York and the Midwest. Concurrency (road)
In a road network, a concurrency is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. The practice is often economically and practically advantageous when multiple routes must pass between a single mountain crossing or over a bridge, or through a major city, and can be accommodated by a single right-of-way. Each route number is typically posted on highways signs where concurrencies are allowed, while some jurisdictions simplify signage by posting one priority route number on highway signs. In the latter circumstance, other route numbers disappear when the concurrency begins and reappear when it ends. In most cases, each route in a concurrency is recognized by maps and atlases. Alexandria, Kentucky
Alexandria is a home rule-class city in Campbell County, Kentucky, in the United States. Along with Newport, it is one of the dual seats of the county. The population was 10,341 at the 2020 census. History It is believed that the area that is now Alexandria was first settled by Frank Spilman and his family . The Spilman family was from King George County, Virginia, and they may have named their settlement after Alexandria, Virginia. The family had begun developing and selling lots in the settlement by 1819, the year the first post office was established. Kentucky Route 8
Kentucky Route 8 is a east–west state highway divided into two distinct segments across northern Kentucky. The western terminus of the route is at KY 237 near Francisville, Kentucky, Francisville. The eastern terminus is at U.S. Route 23 in South Portsmouth, Kentucky, South Portsmouth. The two distinct segments of this route were not meant to be connected together. KY 8 from its west end in Boone County to Augusta in Bracken County is designated as a part of an identified corridor for bikes named the Ramblin' River Tour by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO).
