Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic
Stock car racing events in the ARCA Menards Series have been held at Salem Speedway in Salem, Indiana since 1955. The track currently hosts one race for the series, currently known as the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200. History ARCA (then known as MARC) first raced at Salem Speedway in 1955, with Jack Harrison winning the inaugural race. Unfortunately, during this race, Ray Duhigg was killed when his car flew out of the track in turn 1. From 1955 to 1979, the track became a staple on the ARCA schedule, though it was left off of the series schedule in 1958, 1960, 1961, and 1978. From 1968 to 1974, ARCA held a 500-lap event at the track, named the Salem 500. The event was briefly revived in 1988 and 1989. After 1979, the series did not race at the track from 1980 to 1986. ARCA Menards Series
The ARCA Menards Series is an American stock car racing, stock car series, the premier division of the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA). It is considered a minor, semi-professional league of stock car racing, used as a feeder series into the three national touring series of NASCAR, and hosts events at a variety of track types including superspeedways, Road racing, road courses, and Dirt track racing, dirt tracks. It also provides hobby drivers a chance to experience racing at large tracks used in the three national touring series in NASCAR. The series has had a longstanding relationship with NASCAR, including using former NASCAR Cup Series cars, hosting events in the same race weekend such as Daytona Speedweeks, and naming an award after NASCAR founder Bill France, Sr. However, the series was not officially affiliated with NASCAR until its buyout on April 27, 2018. 2020 was the first season that the series was sanctioned by NASCAR. Jack Bowsher
Jack Edward Bowsher (October 2, 1930 – April 8, 2006) was an American race car driver and car owner. He obtained more than ten national championships in his 58-year racing career including, three ARCA Championships. He is also the father of 2-time ARCA Champion Bobby Bowsher. Early life Jack Edward Bowsher was born on October 2, 1930, in Harmony, Ohio. He graduated from Plattsburg High School in 1948 and served a year in the Navy in 1949. Career Bowsher began his racing career in 1949 after attending his first race. In 1953 Jack joined the newly sanctioned ARCA Series. In 1963 Jack accumulated 16 wins on his way to win his first ARCA Title. Bowsher went on to win the championship the next two years. In 1971 Bowsher competed in the USAC Stock Car Series finishing 2nd in the series standings. He accumulated 21 wins in the series. Plymouth was a brand of automobiles produced by Chrysler, Chrysler Corporation and its successor Mercedes-Benz Group, DaimlerChrysler. The brand was launched in 1928 to compete in what was then described as the "low-priced" market segment that was dominated by Chevrolet and Ford Motor Company, Ford. Earl Balmer
Earl Franklin Balmer (December 13, 1935 – October 25, 2019) was an American racing driver who drove stock cars and motorcycles. Balmer competed in the ARCA Racing Series and NASCAR Grand National Series, winning a Daytona 500 qualifying race in 1966. Racing career He started his career at the Jeffersonville Sportsdrome in Clarksville, Indiana. After exiting the NASCAR scene, Balmer returned to local racing, running late models at Fairgrounds Speedway. Balmer drove in the ARCA Racing Series from 1959 to 1973, winning races at tracks like Salem Speedway, Pan American Speedway and Corpus Christi Speedway. He also won ARCA's first superspeedway race, a qualifier race for the 1964 250-mile race. During that race, Balmer led 65 of the first 67 laps before falling victim to an oil leak. Egnatius "Iggy" Katona (August 16, 1916 – December 4, 2003) was an American stock car racing driver from Willis, Michigan. Donald O. H. "Don" White (June 24, 1928 – April 29, 2016) was an American racing driver known for his stock car career. He is best known for competing in United States Auto Club (USAC) sanctioned events; during the 1960s, White was twice the USAC Stock Car National Champion. He retired as the series' winningest driver. White had 24 starts in the NASCAR Grand National / Winston Cup series between 1954 and 1972 with 12 top-ten and 7 top-five finishes. Earlier in his career, White won three International Motor Contest Association (IMCA) championships: 1954, 1955 and 1958. Driving career White started his first national race in 1949.
