Kennedy Venkersammy
Kennedy Dasrath Venkersammy (born 12 February 1951) is a former international cricketer who represented the United States national cricket team, United States national team between 1982 and 1986. He was born in Guyana, and before emigrating to the U.S. played first-class cricket for Berbice cricket team, Berbice. A right-handed middle-order batsman and right-arm leg spin bowler, Venkersammy played for the Guyana national cricket team, Guyanese national team at under-19 level, and also toured England with a West Indies under-19 cricket team, West Indies Young Cricketers team in 1970. He made his first-class debut for Berbice in October 1971, playing against Demerara cricket team, Demerara in the final of the inter-county Guystac Trophy, Jones Cup (which at the time held first-class status). Albion, Guyana
Albion is a village in East Berbice-Corentyne, Guyana. Geography It is located approximately east of the town of New Amsterdam, Guyana along the one and only main road. Part of Albion is known as Albion High Reef. Albion was a larger settlement, but has been broken up into smaller adjacent villages such as Hampshire, Nigg, Chesney, Belvedere, Sand Reef, Dr Bush, Guava Bush and Topoo. Demographics The town has 1,424 inhabitants as of 2012, mostly Indo-Guyanese. The village has four mandirs, one mosque and two Christian churches. Economy The Albion Sugar Estate (owned by Guyana Sugar Corporation) is a major employer in the area (3,400 reported in 2011). The estate also has medical facilities which is also provided to non-employees in a limited fashion. Other health centres are in Williamsburg or Fyrish. 1986 ICC Trophy
The 1986 ICC Trophy was a limited-overs cricket tournament held in England between 11 June and 7 July 1986. It was the third ICC Trophy tournament to be staged, and as with the previous two tournaments, games between the 16 participating teams played over 60 overs a side and with white clothing and red balls. All matches except the final were played in the Midlands, but the final was held at Lord's, London. The tournament served as the Cricket World Cup qualification process – Zimbabwe defeated the Netherlands to win their second ICC Trophy in a row and qualify for the 1987 World Cup. The weather was much better than the earlier competitions, and all matches were played to a result. Berbice Cricketers
Berbice is a region along the Berbice River in Guyana, which was between 1627 and 1792 a colony of the Dutch West India Company and between 1792 to 1815 a colony of the Dutch state. After having been ceded to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in the latter year, it was merged with Demerara-Essequibo to form the colony of British Guiana in 1831. It became a county of British Guiana in 1838 till 1958. In 1966, British Guiana gained independence as Guyana and in 1970 it became a republic as the Co-operative Republic of Guyana. After being a hereditary fief in the possession of the Van Peere family, the colony was governed by the Society of Berbice in the second half of the colonial period, akin to the neighbouring colony of Suriname, which was governed by the Society of Suriname. Rohan Babulal Kanhai (born 26 December 1935) is a Guyanese former cricketer of Tamil Indo-Guyanese origin , who represented the West Indies in 79 Test matches. He is widely considered to be one of the best batsmen of the 1960s. Kanhai featured in several great West Indian teams, playing alongside Sir Garfield Sobers, Roy Fredericks, Lance Gibbs, Clive Lloyd, and Alvin Kallicharran among others. C. L. R. James wrote in the ''New World'' journal that Kanhai was "the high peak of West Indian cricketing development", and praised his "adventuresome" attitude. Tyrone Ranjit Etwaroo (born 23 August 1959) is a Guyanese former first-class cricketer who represented Berbice, Guyana and an International XI in first-class cricket. Life and cricket career Etwaroo was born at Port Mourant in August 1959, where he was educated at Corentyne Comprehensive High School. He debuted in first-class cricket for Berbice against Demerara in the 1977–78 Jones Cup at Georgetown. He was selected to play first-class cricket for Guyana in 1979–80 Shell Shield, making his debut against Barbados.
