Kennedy (surname)
Kennedy, with variant forms O'Kennedy and Kennedie, is a surname of Irish and Scottish origin that has also been used as a given name. Origins There have been several etymologies given for the surname. One is that the name is an Anglicisation of ''Ó Cinnéide'', which means "grandson of ''Cinnédidh''" or "grandson of ''Cinnéidigh''". Both of these personal names are derived from Gaelic words meaning "helmet-headed". ''Ceanéidigh'' could be related to the old Gaelic name ''Cennétig'', which is known from Cennétig mac Lorcáin, the father of the Irish high king ''Brian mac Cennétig'', who was also known as ''Brian Bóruma'' or Brian Boru. There is an Kennedy (Ireland), Irish Kennedy family and a Clan Kennedy, Scottish Kennedy clan in Carrick, Scotland, Carrick, Ayrshire, which are unrelated to one another. Another possibility is that ''Kennedy'' is an Anglicisation of the Gaelic languages, Gaelic ''Ó Ceannéidigh,'' meaning "grandson of ''Ceannéidigh''". ''Ceannéidigh'' ...

Kennedy Town
Kennedy Town is a town and neighbourhood at the western end of Sai Wan on Hong Kong Island in Hong Kong. It was named after Arthur Kennedy (colonial administrator), Arthur Edward Kennedy, the 7th governor of Hong Kong from 1872 to 1877. Administratively, it is part of Central and Western District. Due to its distance from major commercial cores and longtime inaccessibility by train, urban development in this area was less vigorous than in other parts of urban Hong Kong. But since the MTR was extended to the area in 2014, it began rapidly gentrifying, with many older businesses, such as vehicle repair workshops and cha chaan tengs, making way for new luxury developments, as well as high-end bars and restaurants. Geography Kennedy Town occupies the northwestern part of Hong Kong Island. It is bordered by the Belcher Bay of Victoria Harbour to the north, by Sulphur Channel to the west, Shek Tong Tsui to the east and Mount Davis, Hong Kong, Mount Davis and Lung Fu Shan to the sout ...

Kennedy Channel
Kennedy Channel (; ; ) is an Arctic sea passage between Greenland and Canada's most northerly island, Ellesmere Island. It was named by Elisha Kane around 1854 during his second Arctic voyage in search of the lost Franklin expedition. It is not entirely clear, however, after which Kennedy he named the channel. Kane may have had his fellow explorer William Kennedy in mind, whom he had met a few years previously while both were involved in earlier searches for Franklin's expedition. However, most historians believe it was named for John Pendleton Kennedy, the United States Secretary of the Navy during 1852 to 1853, under whose direction Kane's second Arctic voyage took place. Geography It forms part of Nares Strait, linking Kane Basin with Hall Basin. From the south, its beginning is marked by Capes Lawrence and Jackson; its junction with Hall Basin is marked by Capes Baird and Morton.''Prostar Sailing Directions 2005 Greenland and Iceland Enroute'', p. 93 It is about 130 ...
