Kennecott Land
Kennecott Land, a subsidiary of Rio Tinto Group, is an American land development company formed in 2001 and based in South Jordan, Utah in the United States. Kennecott Land owns 93,000 acres (380 km²) of undeveloped land in Salt Lake and Tooele counties in Utah, 75,000 acres (300 km²) of which are located in Salt Lake County. The company was formed by Rio Tinto in order to utilize land formerly owned by mining companies like Kennecott Utah Copper. Daybreak Community
Daybreak is a master-planned community of over 4,000 acres (16 km²) located in South Jordan, Utah at the site of Bingham Canyon Mine. Daybreak was originally owned by Kennecott Land. As of 2024, it was being developed by the Larry H. Miller Company. Description and history Daybreak was originally the site of the Bingham Canyon Mine, where copper, gold, silver, and other minerals were extracted. Kennecott Land carried out an accelerated clean-up of the former mine and its surroundings. The Environmental Protection Agency praised the project and has since given the land a clean bill of health.In 2021, the undeveloped portion of the community, comprising 1,300 acres, was sold to Larry H.
