Kengal
The Rock is a town with a population of 1,347, in the Riverina region of southern New South Wales, Australia, in Lockhart Shire. It is south-west of Wagga Wagga, on the Olympic Highway. The town is named after the large rocky hill overlooking it, now called ''The Rock Hill'' but called ''Yerong'' in the local indigenous language. The reserve that includes The Rock Hill is an attraction for bush-walking, rock-climbing and the observation of wildlife. It is also an Aboriginal sacred site, called ''Kengal''. History The Rock Post Office opened on 1 September 1890. Prior to 1919, the town had been known as ''Kingston'', probably named after the King family, which had operated the local farming property known as "The Rock". The New South Wales XPT (short for eXpress Passenger Train) is a class of diesel locomotive, diesel-powered passenger trains built by Commonwealth Engineering, Comeng and ABB. Based on the British Rail-designed InterCity 125, High Speed Train, each XPT set comprises two XP power cars in a push–pull train, push-pull configuration and, between them, from four to seven passenger carriages. The XPT was procured following a competitive invitation to tender, tendering process, with an initial contract for 30 trainsets, comprising 10 power cars and 20 carriages, in March 1980. The design of the InterCity 125 was substantially modified. Testing commenced in August 1981 and the first set entered service under the State Rail Authority during January 1982. Oaklands Railway Line, New South Wales
The Oaklands railway line is a partly-closed railway line in New South Wales, Australia. It is a branch of the Main South line at The Rock, and heads in a south-westerly direction through the towns of Boree Creek and Urana, terminating at Oaklands. The line opened to Lockhart in 1901, and to Oaklands in 1912. Passenger services were withdrawn in 1974, and the line is now closed beyond Boree Creek. Grain haulage provides the main traffic on the line. From Oaklands, a line heads south to the Victorian border on the Murray River, and then to Benalla, Victoria. That line was formerly Victorian broad gauge, but was converted to standard gauge in 2009. Group 13 Rugby League
The Group 13 Rugby league Competition is a defunct New South Wales Country Rugby League group competition which was run under the auspices of the Club Rugby League. It was disbanded after the 1991 Season. It covered an area comprising the southernmost parts of inland New South Wales and even some parts of Northern Victoria. The group was born from the Far South Rugby League and Wagga Rugby League, and was originally called Group 18 between 1934 and 1936. The Far South Rugby League comprised Albury, Holbrook, Henty, Culcairn, Tumbarumba, The Rock and Yerong Creek whilst Wagga Rugby League comprised Wagga Magpies, Wagga Old Boys, Borambola, Farm and Militia. The Farrer Football Netball League (FFNL) is an Australian rules football and netball competition containing nine clubs based in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. The league features three grades in the Australian rules football competition, with these being First-Grade, Reserve-Grade and Under 17s. In the netball competition there are four grades, with these being A-Grade, A-Reserve Grade, B-Grade and C-Grade. The Farrer FNL is named after William Farrer, a leading English Australian agronomist and plant breeder. Farrer is best remembered as the originator of the "Federation" strain of wheat, distributed in 1903. The Central Riverina Football League was a minor Australian rules football competition which ran from 1949 until 1981 in the Riverina region of New South Wales. The league contained a number of historic clubs, many of which no longer exist. History There was a Central Riverina Football League that was formed in 1907 in Narrandra, that was made up from the Coolamon, Hay and Narrandra football clubs. The Central Riverina Football League (CRFL) was formed in 1949 at the annual general meeting of the Milbrulong & District Football League, when it was decided to change its name to the Central Riverina Football League. The Milbrulong Football Association was reformed in 1945, after a five-year break due to World War II and was active up until 1948, when the name change took place in early 1949.
