Ken Searle
Ken Searle (born 1951) is an Australian artist. Searly was born in Sydney in 1951 and grew up around Cooks River in the south-western suburbs of the city.(See download for full CV.) He is a self-taught artist who began exhibiting his paintings and drawings in the mid 1970`s and has held at least 24 solo exhibitions since. He is known for large, and often whimsical, paintings, in oil on canvas, of suburban and industrial areas in several Australian cities. From 1998 to 2001 Searle worked as a consultant at the school in the Aboriginal community of Papunya in central Australia, the place where the Western Desert Art Movement originated. Cooks River
The Cooks River, a semi-mature tide-dominated drowned valley estuary, is a tributary of Botany Bay, located in south-western Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The course of the urban waterway has been altered to accommodate various developments along its shore. It serves as part of a stormwater system for the of its watershed, and many of the original streams running into it have been turned into concrete lined channels. The tidal sections support significant areas of mangrove ecosystems and are used for recreational activities. Course The river begins at Graf Park, Yagoona, then flows in a roughly north-easterly direction to Chullora. Papunya, Northern Territory
Papunya (Pintupi-Luritja: ''Warumpi'') is a small Indigenous Australian community roughly northwest of Alice Springs (Mparntwe) in the Northern Territory, Australia. It is known as an important centre for Contemporary Indigenous Australian art, in particular the style created by the Papunya Tula artists in the 1970s, referred to colloquially as dot painting. Its population in 2016 was 404. History Pintupi and Luritja people were forced off their traditional country in the 1930s and moved into Hermannsburg (Ntaria) and Haasts Bluff, where there were government ration depots. There were often tragic confrontations between these people, with their nomadic hunter-gathering lifestyle, and the cattlemen who were moving into the country and over-using the limited water supplies of the region for their cattle. Papunya Tula
Papunya Tula, registered as Papunya Tula Artists Pty Ltd, is an artist cooperative formed in 1972 in Papunya, Northern Territory, owned and operated by Aboriginal people from the Western Desert of Australia. The group is known for its innovative work with the Western Desert Art Movement, popularly referred to as dot painting. Credited with bringing contemporary Aboriginal art to world attention, its artists inspired many other Australian Aboriginal artists and their styles. Landscape painting, also known as landscape art, is the depiction in painting of natural scenery such as mountains, valleys, rivers, trees, and forests, especially where the main subject is a wide view—with its elements arranged into a coherent composition. Nadia Wheatley
Nadia Wheatley (born 30 April 1949) is an Australian writer whose work includes picture books, novels, biography and history. Perhaps best known for her classic picture book ''My Place'' (illustrated by Donna Rawlins), the author's biography of Charmian Clift was described by critic Peter Craven as 'one of the greatest Australian biographies'. Another book by Wheatley is ''A Banner Bold'', a historical novel. While some of the author's books for children and young adults have been honoured in the annual awards of the Children's Book Council of Australia, in 2014 Nadia was nominated by IBBY Australia for the Hans Christian Andersen Award for Writing — the highest international recognition given to a living author whose complete works have made a lasting contribution to children's literature.
