Ciudad BolÃvar (; Spanish for "Bolivar City"), formerly known as Angostura and St. Thomas de Guyana, is the capital of Venezuela's southeastern BolÃvar, Venezuela, BolÃvar State. The (, ; ), also rendered as epee in English, is the largest and heaviest of the three weapons used in the sport of fencing. The modern derives from the 19th-century , a weapon which itself derives from the French small sword. This contains a detailed contempraneous description of the history and form of the sport. As a thrusting weapon, the is similar to a Foil (fencing), foil (contrasted with a Sabre (fencing), sabre, which is designed for slashing). It has a stiffer blade than a foil. The 2015 Pan American Fencing Championships were held at the National Sports Stadium, in Santiago de Chile, from 17 to 26 April 2015. The event was organized by the Pan American Fencing Confederation and the Chilean Fencing Federation, with the support of the International Fencing Federation and with the sponsorship of the Chilean Ministry of Sport and the Chilean Olympic Committee.
