is a Japanese ''jidaigeki'' or period drama that was on prime-time television from 1969 to 2011, making it the longest-running ''jidaigeki'' in Japanese television history. The title character is the historic Tokugawa Mitsukuni, former vice-''shōgun'' and retired second ''daimyō'' of the Mito Domain. In the guise of Mitsuemon, a retired crepe merchant from Echigo, he roams Japan with two samurai retainers, fun-loving Sasaki Sukesaburō (Suke-san) and studious Atsumi Kakunoshin (Kaku-san). Tokugawa Mitsusada
was a ''daimyō'' in Japan during the Edo period (1603–1868). Mitsusada born as son and heir of Tokugawa Yorinobu and a grandson of Tokugawa Ieyasu with childhood name Nagatomimaru (長福丸). Among his sons was the eighth Tokugawa shōgun Yoshimune. Norihime, daughter of his married Ichijō Kaneteru. He married daughter of Prince Fushimi-no-Miya Sadakiyo, Yaso-no-Miya Teruko (who also sister of Asa no Miya Akiko who was 4th shōgun, Tokugawa Ietsuna's wife). One of the gosanke, Mitsusada ruled the Wakayama Domain from its castle, his birthplace, in Wakayama. He reached the Junior Second court rank while alive, and was awarded the Junior First rank posthumously; he also held the ceremonial post of ''gon-dainagon''. His grave is at Chōhō-ji in Wakayama. Tokugawa Tadanaga
was a Japanese ''daimyō'' of the early Edo period. The son of the second ''shōgun'' Tokugawa Hidetada, his elder brother was the third ''shōgun'' Tokugawa Iemitsu. Life Often called ''Suruga Dainagon'' (the major counsellor of Suruga), Tadanaga was born in 1606. His birth name was ''Kunichiyo'' (国千代). The date of his birth is uncertain, and is variously given as May 7, June 1, and December 3. Blessed with military and intellectual prowess and a generosity of spirit, he received support from his mother, Oeyo (or Sūgen'in), who favored him over her other son Takechiyo (the future Iemitsu) to become the third shogun.
