Kazbek Pagiyev
Kazbek Khazbiyevich Pagiyev () (22 February 1959 – 31 December 2008) was a Russian politician who was assassinated in 2008. Early life Pagiyev was born Alagir on 22 February 1959. Career Pagiyev was the former deputy prime minister of North Ossetia. He was the mayor of its capital, Vladikavkaz Vladikavkaz, formerly known as Ordzhonikidze () or Dzaudzhikau (), is the capital city of North Ossetia–Alania, Russia. It is located in the southeast of the republic at the foothills of the Caucasus, situated on the Terek (river), Terek River. ..., from 2002 to December 2007. He was replaced by late Vitaly Karayev as mayor. He resigned as deputy prime minister in December 2008. His term was short, from November to December 2008. Alagir
Alagir (; ) is an industrial town and the administrative center of Alagirsky District in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, Russia, located on the west bank of the Ardon River, west of the republic's capital Vladikavkaz. As of the 2010 Census, its population was 20,949. Etymology The name is derived from Ossetian Uællag 'Upper' and Ir 'Ossetia'. History The town was established in 1850 by Prince Mikhail Semyonovich Vorontsov, the Viceroy of the Caucasus, near an ancient silver/lead mine in the nearby Alagir Gorge. It was built up as a fortification around a smelting plant and became a major mining center. Vitaly Karayev
Vitaly Sergeyevich Karayev () (10 June 1962 – 26 November 2008) was the mayor of the North Ossetian capital, Vladikavkaz. Assassination Karayev was murdered by an unknown gunman on 26 November 2008. He was killed as he left his home and climbed into his silver Mercedes. He was taken to hospital, but died there from a chest wound. He had been in power for less than a year before being murdered. Russian authorities stated in February 2009 that about 30 people had been detained in connection with Karayev's assassination, including some in Moscow.
