Kaydee
Kaydee were a four-piece pop rock band from Kilkenny, Ireland which existed between 1994 and 1998. One member in particular, Tara Blaise, has gone on to have a successful solo career. Biography Beginnings In 1994, Jan Kealy, Bob Murphy, Kevin Bruce, and Joey Shore started a band called Kaydee, taking the name from the initials 'K.D.'. The lead singer Jan Kealy had been writing songs since the age of thirteen and in an interview with Radio Kilkenny on 28 June, the guitarist Kevin Bruce cited My Bloody Valentine as one of his influences. The band played many times at the Pumphouse Pub and various other venues in Kilkenny. In 1994 the band sent a demo tape to and played a showcase for EMI, and they were signed by A&R man Thomas Black to their Irish subsidiary Lime Records. With Lime Records "Cradle" was Kaydee's debut single, released on 20 June 1997 and entered the Irish Singles Chart at No.18. Tara Blaise (born 1 March 1975) is an Irish female pop, folk, and rock singer. The eldest of six children, Blaise was born in London, but at the age of three moved with her family to Ireland and grew up in Aughrim County Wicklow. Biography Early career The daughter of an architect and a speech and drama teacher, Tara was introduced to the world of drama and music at a young age, studying speech and drama up to grade eight in the Royal Irish Academy of Music. Tara Blaise's singing career began at 16 when she formed a band called Les Legumes with school friends, but it was her stint as a backing singer with Dublin band The Wilde Oscars that first brought her to the attention of the Irish music scene. Paul O'Duffy (born 31 December 1963, in London) is an English record producer, composer and mixer. Thomas Black is a former Irish record label executive and TV personality. He worked at EMI Records Ireland as A&R director, where he signed artists like Relish, Aslan, Cathy Davey and John Spillane. He previously worked for Sony Records in the same position, signing The 4 of Us and Cry Before Dawn to the label. Black was one of the three judges on the TV talent show ''You're a Star'' where he discovered and championed Dublin band 21 DEMANDS who made Irish chart history by becoming the first unsigned artist to achieve a number one single, the band subsequently changed their name to Kodaline, signing to Sony Records. Irish Singles Chart
The Irish Singles Chart is the Republic of Ireland's music industry standard singles popularity chart issued weekly by the Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA) and compiled on their behalf by the Official Charts Company. Chart rankings are based on sales, which are compiled through over-the-counter retail data captured electronically each day from retailers' EPOS systems. All major record shops, digital retailers and streaming services contribute to the chart, accounting for over 95% of the market. A new chart is compiled and officially released to the public by the Irish Recorded Music Association on Friday at noon. Each chart is dated with the "week-ending" date of the previous Thursday (i.e., the day before issue). The singles chart was first published on 1 October 1962, and covered the top ten singles of the previous week by record label shipments.
