Kauhava Airfield
Kauhava Airfield (; ) is an airfield located in Kauhava, Finland, north of Kauhava town centre. The airfield used to be a military airport until the end of 2014, owned and operated by Finavia. Training Air Wing of the Finnish Air Force was based at the airport. In May 2014, Finavia announced that it would sell the airport properties to Kasvuyrittäjät Oy. BAe Hawk
The BAE Systems Hawk is a British single-engine, subsonic, jet-powered advanced trainer aircraft. Its aluminum alloy fuselage is of conventional string-frame construction. It was first known as the Hawker Siddeley Hawk, and subsequently produced by its successor companies, British Aerospace and BAE Systems. It has been used in a training capacity and as a low-cost combat aircraft. Operators of the Hawk include the Royal Air Force (notably the Red Arrows display team) and several foreign military operators. Finavia Oyj, formerly the Finnish Civil Aviation Administration, is the public limited company responsible for maintaining and developing Finland's airport network. Finavia manages and develops 20 airports around the country, 18 of which primarily serve commercial flights and 2 of which focus solely on military and general aviation. Training Air Wing, Finnish Air Force
The Training Air Wing (, abbr. ''LentoSK'', ) was the Finnish Air Force pilot pjet aircraft training school. It was located at Kauhava Airport in Kauhava, in Southern Ostrobothnia. The unit trains pilots for the Finnish Defence Forces, as well as for the Finnish Border Guard. History In the beginning, pilots were trained in Helsinki at Santahamina, where there was a sandy airfield, called "Sahara". Until the end of the 1920s, the school mostly used aircraft equipped with floaters. In the 1930s, the pilot training was moved to Kauhava. At the same time, the Finnish Air Force also started to train pilots for the reserve. In 2005, it was decided that primary training would be branched off and a new unit was created in Tikkakoski.
