Katrin Mattscherodt
Katrin Mattscherodt (born 26 October 1981) is a German long track speed skater who participates in international competitions. In the team pursuit final against Japan at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, she was a replacement for Anni Friesinger-Postma in the final (after Friesinger-Postma had problems finishing in the semifinal), and won a gold medal as part of the German team. Speed Skating
Speed skating is a competitive form of ice skating in which the competitors race each other in travelling a certain distance on skates. Types of speed skating are long-track speed skating, short-track speed skating, and marathon speed skating. In the Olympic Games, long-track speed skating is usually referred to as just "speed skating", while short-track speed skating is known as "short track". The International Skating Union (ISU), the governing body of competitive ice sports, refers to long track as "speed skating" and short track as "short track skating". Long track speed skating takes place on a 400m ice track, while short track takes place on a 111m track. An international federation was founded in 1892, the first for any winter sport. Inzell
Inzell () is a municipality in the district of Traunstein in Bavaria, Germany. It is known for the Eisstadion Inzell, an outdoor artificial ice rink that has been used for many international speed skating championships. It is now an indoor oval. Geography Inzell lies in a wide valley floor in the Chiemgau Alps, framed by the mountains of Rauschberg, Zinnkopf, Teisenberg and the massif of Staufen.
