Kathleen Lynch (cyclist)
Kathleen "Kathy" Lynch (born 23 April 1957) is a retired competitive cyclist from New Zealand who competed both on and off the road. With a talent for multiple sports disciplines, she won the canoeing events New Zealand White Water Downriver and Slalom Championships in 1987 and represented her country at the 1988 Canoe Slalom World Cup. Around the same time, she was also a successful triathlete, but did not continue with that sport. She bought her first mountain bike in 1988 at the age of 31 in order to compete in an adventure sport event, and within a year she had become the New Zealand national cross country champion. Around the same time, she also took up road cycling. She was included in the New Zealand team for the 1990 Commonwealth Games and was assigned as domestique for the top New Zealand road rider, Madonna Harris. Kathleen Lynch (born 7 June 1953) is a former Irish Labour Party politician who served as Minister of State from 2011 to 2016. She served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Cork North-Central constituency from 1994 to 1997 and 2002 to 2016. Early life Kathleen Lynch was born in Cork in 1953. Political career 1985 to 2009 She first became involved in politics in 1985 when she was elected to Cork Corporation for the Workers' Party. She came to prominence as a campaigner against service charges being introduced by the corporation. When that party split in 1992, Lynch and other members of the Cork organisation were initially undecided as to their stance, but she subsequently decided to follow former party president Proinsias De Rossa and the bulk of the party's TDs into the new organisation which later took the name Democratic Left. Kathleen Lynch is an American dancer and performance artist, best known as American punk band Butthole Surfers' "naked dancer" from 1986 to 1989; however, she was never officially part of the band. In 1988, Lynch and the Butthole Surfers appeared in ''Bar-B-Que Movie'', a short Super 8 movie directed by actor/ filmmaker Alex Winter. A spoof of 1974's '' The Texas Chain Saw Massacre'', the film ends with a music video-style performance of the song "Fast" (a.k.a. "Fart Song"), featuring Gibby Haynes, Paul Leary, King Coffey, Teresa Nervosa, and Jeff Pinkus, as well as Lynch. Kathleen Lynch (academic)
Kathleen Lynch (born 1951) is an Irish sociologist, activist and Emeritus, professor emeritus of equality studies at University College Dublin. Career Lynch began her career as a social worker, working in North Dublin city. Her seminal work is a co-authored study with Anne Lodge, ''Equality and Power in Schools: Redistribution, Recognition, and Representation''. It was a two-year study of twelve Irish schools, studying all aspects from streaming to sexual orientation. Lynch was involved in the establishment of the Equality Studies Centre in University College Dublin (UCD) in 1990. In 2005, she was involved in the creation of the UCD School of Social Justice. Her 2009 book, ''Affective Equality: Love Care and Injustice'', was named one of Ireland’s 100 best books by readers of ''The Irish Times''.
