Katharina Liensberger
Katharina Liensberger (born 1 April 1997) is an Austrian World Cup alpine ski racer, and specialises in the technical events of slalom and giant slalom. Born in Feldkirch, Vorarlberg, Liensberger made her World Cup debut in January 2016 and gained her first podium in 2019; her first World Cup victories came in March 2021 and won the season title in slalom. Slalom Skiing
Slalom is an alpine skiing and alpine snowboarding discipline, involving skiing between poles or gates. These are spaced more closely than those in giant slalom, super-G, super giant slalom and Downhill (ski competition), downhill, necessitating quicker and shorter turns. Internationally, the sport is contested at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, and at the Olympic Winter Games. FIS Alpine World Ski Championships
The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships is an alpine skiing competition organized by the International Ski Federation (FIS). History The inaugural world championships in alpine skiing were held in 1931. It consisted of Downhill (ski competition), downhill and Slalom skiing, slalom events for men and women. Next year the Alpine skiing combined, combined event was added to the program as a "paper" race which used the results of the downhill and slalom. During the 1930s, the event was held annually in Europe, until interrupted by the outbreak of World War II, preventing a 1940 event. An event was held in 1941, but included competitors only from nations from the Axis powers or nations not at war with them. The results were later cancelled by the FIS in 1946 because of the limited number of participants, so they are not considered official. FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2021
The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2021 were held from 8 to 21 February in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. In May 2020, the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) and the event organizing committee asked the International Ski Federation (FIS) to postpone the event until 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, the request was rejected by FIS, and the organizers then moved forward with plans for 2021. The host city was selected at the FIS Congress in Cancún, Mexico, on 10 June 2016. Cortina d'Ampezzo was the only applicant, and had been a finalist for the previous two championships. Cortina previously hosted the world championships in 1932 and 1956 ( Winter Olympics) and has held numerous World Cup events; the Tofane is a regular stop for women's speed events in January. Alpine Skiing At The 2018 Winter Olympics – Mixed Team
The team event competition of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics was held on 24 February 2018 at the Yongpyong Alpine Centre in PyeongChang. Rules This was a parallel slalom competition. There were four members on each team (two males and two females), as well as two reserves. There were four races and the winner of each race scored a point for their team (a tied race awards one point per team). The first race was female against female, race two was male against male, race three was female against female and the last race was male against male. If, after four races, both teams had the same number of points, then the race times of each team's fastest man and woman would be added and the team with the best aggregate time won.
