José Rivera (born March 24, 1955) is a playwright and the first Puerto Rican screenwriter to be nominated for an Academy Award for the movie '' The Motorcycle Diaries''. Early years Rivera was born in Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 1955. He was raised in Arecibo until 1959, when his family moved to New York City, settling in Long Island.
