Katarina Nad Medvodami
Topol pri Medvodah () is a small settlement in the Municipality of Medvode in the Upper Carniola region of Slovenia. It lies in the hills northwest of the Slovene capital Ljubljana and is a popular destination for short trips with locals. Name The name of the settlement was changed from ''(Sveta) Katarina nad Medvodami'' (literally, ' Saint Catherine above Medvode') to ''Topol'' (literally, ' poplar') in 1955. The name was changed on the basis of the 1948 Law on Names of Settlements and Designations of Squares, Streets, and Buildings as part of efforts by Slovenia's postwar communist government to remove religious elements from toponyms. Katarina (Doctor Who)
Katarina is a fictional character played by Adrienne Hill in the long-running British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who''. She is a companion of the First Doctor. Katarina appeared in the programme from November to December 1965, in five episodes over two stories. For 35 years, none of the episodes to feature her existed in the BBC archives until January 2004 when the second episode of the 12-part serial The Daleks' Master Plan was found. An inhabitant of ancient Troy, Katarina was very unused to modern concepts: she didn't even know what a key was. Katarina was conceived as a permanent companion but this was quickly re-evaluated by the writers, including producer John Wiles, as they realised the writing challenges that came with such an unworldly character. Katarina Parish
Katarina Parish ( sv, Katarina församling) is a parish in Södermalm's church district (''kontrakt'') in the Diocese of Stockholm, Sweden. The parish is located in Stockholm Municipality in Stockholm County. The parish forms its own pastorship. History John III gave an order in 1576 that a wooden chapel be built on the place on Södermalm, where Sten Sture the Younger's corpse and the corpses of the people killed at the Stockholm Bloodbath in 1520 were burned. The whole of Södermalm, however, belonged to Maria Parish (''Maria församling''), until Charles X Gustav in 1654 issued a permit that the eastern part would constitute a special parish and a church would be built on the site of the said chapel. Drawings for the church were made by Jean de la Vallée. The work began in 1656, and the church was consecrated in 1671. Katarina Church
Katarina kyrka (''Church of Catherine'') is one of the major churches in central Stockholm, Sweden. The original building was constructed 1656–1695. It has been rebuilt twice after being destroyed by fires, the second time during the 1990s. The Katarina-Sofia borough is named after Katarina Parish and the neighbouring parish of Sofia. Construction of the church started during the reign of Charles X of Sweden, and the church is named after Princess Catherine, mother of the king, wife of John Casimir, Palsgrave of Pfalz-Zweibrücken and half-sister of Gustavus Adolphus. The original architect was Jean de la Vallée. The construction was severely delayed due to shortage of funds. In 1723 the church, together with half of the buildings in the parish, was completely destroyed in a major fire. Katarina Elevator
The Katarina Elevator or Katarina Lift ( sv, Katarinahissen) is a passenger elevator in Stockholm that connects Slussen (the sluice/lock area) to the heights of Södermalm. The lift was a shortcut between Katarinavägen, Slussen and Mosebacke torg. The original lift was constructed in 1881, but the current structure dates from the rebuilding of the Slussen transport interchange in 1936. The lift has been closed since 2010 due to lack of security in the construction. The lift will remain closed at least until Projekt Slussen is completed in 2025. The ''Katarina'' is a restaurant ship, and former steam ship, that was built in 1869 at Stockholm in Sweden. Sailing under her original name of ''Fredriksborg'' on the route through the Stockholm archipelago from Stockholm to Vaxholm, she was the Waxholmsbolaget's first propeller-driven steam ship. After being sold by the Waxholmsbolaget in 1882, she operated in various roles under the names ''Höganäs'', ''Mariehamn'', ''Stella'', ''Wirumaa'', ''Kullervo'' and ''André'' before acquiring her current name in 1985. Today she is a floating restaurant moored in the Aura river in Turku, Finland.
