Kasper Heiberg
Kasper Jacob Heiberg (3 April 1928 – 27 February 1984) was a Danish painter and sculptor. Though largely forgotten today, in retrospect Heiberg is considered to have made an important contribution to the development of Danish painting. Biography Born in Kongens Lyngby to the north of Copenhagen, Heiberg was the son of the Norwegian-born architect Edvard Heiberg. He studied painting at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts under Vilhelm Lundstrøm, William Scharff and Elof Risebye from 1948 to 1956. He first exhibited at Kunstnernes Efterårsudstilling (Artists Autumn Exhibition) in 1949. For a time, he created Realistic paintings but soon adopted a more experimental Abstract approach, based on the interrelationship of colours within the work. From 1962 to 1969 he lived in Paris where he was inspired by the Groupe de Recherche d’Art Visuel (GRAV), whose works he had seen at the 1963 Biennale. Kongens Lyngby
Kongens Lyngby (, Danish for "the King's Heather Town"; short form Lyngby) is the seat and commercial centre of Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality in the northern suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. Lyngby Hovedgade is a busy shopping street and the site of a branch of Magasin du Nord as well as Lyngby Storcenter. The district is also home to several major companies, including COWI A/S, Bang & Olufsen, ICEpower a/s and Microsoft. The Technical University of Denmark relocated to Lyngby from central Copenhagen in the 1970s. Lyngby station is located on the Hillerød radial of Copenhagen's S-train network. Thorvaldsen Medal
The Thorvaldsen Medal ( Danish: Thorvaldsens Medalje, Thorvaldsen Medaillen) is awarded annually with few exceptions to a varying number of recipients by the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and is its highest distinction within the visual arts. It is named after the sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen. The medal was founded in 1837 as the Exhibition Medal and awarded for talented works in the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition in the Charlottenborg Palace. In 1866, it was renamed the Thorvaldsen Exhibition Medal ( da, Thorvaldsenske Udstillings-Medaille), and from 1923 it has been known under its current name. The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts ( da, Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi - Billedkunst Skolerne) has provided education in the arts for more than 250 years, playing its part in the development of the art of Denmark. History The Royal Danish Academy of Portraiture, Sculpture, and Architecture in Copenhagen was inaugurated on 31 March 1754, and given as a gift to the King Frederik V on his 31st birthday. Its name was changed to the Royal Danish Academy of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture in 1771. At the same event, Johann Friedrich Struensee introduced a new scheme in the academy to encourage artisan apprentices to take supplementary classes in drawing so as to develop the notion of "good taste".
