Karya (Arcadia)
Caryae or Karyai ( grc, Καρύαι), also known as Carya or Karya (Καρύα), was a town in the north of ancient Arcadia in the region of Pheneatis near Pheneus. It should be distinguished from the town of the same name located in the boundary zone between Laconia and Arcadia. It is cited by Pausanias, who says that it was at the end of a ravine, on the road from Orchomenus to Pheneus and from there was the plain of Pheneus. The 2011 census recorded 542 inhabitants in the community and 719 in the municipal unit. The community of Karya covers an area of 74.964 km2 while the municipal unit covers 158.685 km2. Karya (Greek: Καρυά) is a former municipality on the island of Lefkada, Ionian Islands, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Lefkada Lefkada ( el, Λευκάδα, ''Lefkáda'', ), also known as Lefkas or Leukas (Ancient Greek and Katharevousa: Λευκάς, ''Leukás'', modern pronunciation ''Lefkás'') and Leucadia, is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea on the west coast of Gr ..., of which it is a municipal unit.
