Karsten Jakobsen
Karsten Jakobsen (15 July 1928 – 8 January 2019) was a Norwegian engineer. He was a professor and Rector (academia), rector (1990–1993) at the Norwegian Institute of Technology, and was the first rector of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in 1996. Career Jakobsen was born in Sandefjord. He graduated as dr.ing. from the Norwegian Institute of Technology, and was appointed professor in mechanical engineering at the Norwegian Institute of Technology in 1982. He was decorated Knight of the Order of St. Olav in 2002. He was awarded the Gunnerus Medal in 2011. Emil Spjøtvoll
Emil Oskar Spjøtvoll (21 July 1940 – 4 March 2002) was a Norwegian mathematician and statistician. Early life Spjøtvoll was born in Hemne Municipality. He finished his secondary education in 1959 at Trondheim Cathedral School, took the cand.mag. degree at the University of Oslo in 1962 and then the cand.real. degree in 1964. Spjøtvoll lectured at the university from 1965 to 1968, and in 1968 he took the dr.philos. degree with the thesis ''A Mixed Model in the Analysis of Variance. Optimal Properties''. Career He was a guest scholar at University of California, Berkeley and the University of Wisconsin, Madison from 1968 to 1970, then docent at the University of Oslo. From 1973 to 1983 he was a professor at the Norwegian College of Agriculture. Spjøtvoll had guest scholarships in Paris (1980–1981) and Zürich (1982–1983). Order Of Saint Olav
The Royal Norwegian Order of Saint Olav (; or ''Sanct Olafs Orden'', the old Norwegian name) is a Norwegian order of chivalry instituted by King Oscar I on 21 August 1847. It is named after King Olav II, known to posterity as St. Olav. Just before the union with Sweden was dissolved in 1905, the Order of the Norwegian Lion was instituted in 1904 by King Oscar II, but no appointments were awarded by his successor, King Haakon VII. The Order of St. Olav thus became the kingdom's only order of chivalry for the next 80 years. The Grand Master of the order is the reigning monarch of Norway. It is used to reward individuals for remarkable accomplishments on behalf of the country and humanity. Dag Kavlie
Dag Kavlie (born 14 April 1939) is a Norwegian shipping engineer. He was a professor and rector (1984–1990) at the Norwegian Institute of Technology, and later worked for the Research Council of Norway. Career He was born in Oslo, and took the siv.ing. degree at the Norwegian Institute of Technology in 1963. He then spent a year as a conscript in the Royal Norwegian Navy, took the doctorate in ship construction at the Institute of Technology, studied at the University of California at Berkeley before entering the shipping sector. In 1972 he took the Ph.D. degree. He then returned to academia, being hired as a lecturer at the Institute of Technology. In 1976 he was promoted to professor. From 1980 he was the deputy rector of the Norwegian Institute of Technology, and from 1984 to 1990 he served as rector. Deputy rector during this period was Kjell Egil Eimhjellen.
