Karrick Martin
Karrick Martin (born May 24, 1989 in Edmonton, Alberta) is a Canadian curler. He currently plays lead on Team Kevin Koe. He is the son of 2010 Olympic champion skip Kevin Martin. Career Juniors Despite being the son of one of curling's greatest players, Martin only began curling at age 19, after playing hockey in high school for the Beaumont Chiefs. He joined the University of Alberta curling team and played in the 2008 CIS/CCA Curling Championships, throwing second stones for the team, which was skipped by Brandon Klassen. There, the team went 3-3 in their group, before losing in a tiebreaker. Martin returned to the national university championship in 2010 throwing third on a team skipped by Eric Richard. There, the team went 4-2 in their group, and lost in a tiebreaker. The team would then be taken over by Brendan Bottcher, and Martin would be bumped to playing second again. 2018 Tim Hortons Brier
The 2018 Tim Hortons Brier, Canada's national men's curling championship, was held from March 3 to 11, 2018 at the Brandt Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan. The winning team represented Canada at the 2018 World Men's Curling Championship from March 31 to April 8 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, United States. This marked the fifth time the Brier was held in Regina, the first time since 2006. The 2018 tournament was the first to use a new 16-team format, featuring representation by all fourteen member associations of Curling Canada, alongside the defending champions (as Team Canada), and a new wildcard team. 2010 CIS/CCA Curling Championships
In 2010, the CIS Nationals were staged at the Saville Sports Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. The men's title was won by the surprise of the tournament, the Queen's Gaels skipped by Jon Beuk. In the final the Gaels defeated the UPEI Panthers, skipped by former Canadian junior champion and world junior silver medalist, Brett Gallant. In the women's final, the Regina Cougars took the title when skip Brooklyn Lemon drew the pin in an extra to defeat the St. Mary's Huskies. This was the second consecutive runner up finish for SMU skip Marie Christianson. With their wins Queen's and Regina will represent Canada at the 2011 FISU Winter Universiade in Erzurum, Turkey. 2008 CIS/CCA Curling Championships
Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) and the CCA combined to host the first national curling championship hosted by the University of Waterloo. It was held from March 12 to 16, 2008 at the Guelph Curling Club and Elora Curling Club. The inaugural event for the men and women was won by the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks. Kevin Martin (born July 31, 1966), nicknamed "The Old Bear" and "K-Mart", is a Canadian retired curler from Edmonton, Alberta, an Olympic, World and four-time Canadian champion and a member of the World Curling Hall of Fame. Skip (curling)
In the sport of curling, the skip is the captain of a team. The skip determines strategy, and holds the broom in the ''house'' (target area) to indicate where a teammate at the other end of the curling ''sheet'' (playing area) should aim the stone. The skip usually throws the last two stones in the fourth position, but may play in any other position. Sometimes "skipper" is used; it can also be abbreviated as "S". It's also used as a verb ("skips", "skipped", "skipping"). It is conventional to identify a team by the name of the skip.
