Karni Mata
Karni Mata (Hindi language, Hindi: करणी माता, or Bhagwati Karniji Maharaj), known by various names such as Bhagwati, Mehaai, Jagdamba, and Kiniyani is a Devi, Hindu Goddess of power and victory described as a warrior sage, who lived between 14th and 16th centuries in Western Rajasthan. Karni Mata is the tutelary deity of the Rajputs and Charans of northwestern India. As a Sagati, she is also worshipped as an incarnation of Hinglaj Mata mandir, Hinglaj or Durga. She is the official deity of the Royal family, royal families of Bikaner and Jodhpur. Karniji played an important role in shaping the history of the region. Karni Crossing
The Karni Crossing (, ) was a cargo terminal on the Israel-Gaza Strip barrier located in the north-eastern end of the Gaza Strip that existed between 1994 and 2011 and used for the export and import of goods from/to the Gaza Strip. This was done as a 'back-to-back' transfer, meaning that Palestinian products meant for export were removed from a Palestinian truck and placed in an Israeli truck, and vice versa for incoming goods. The Karni Crossing was also used by the residents of Netzarim since the Karni road was the only route to that isolated Israeli settlement on which Jewish travel was allowed after the 1994 implementation of the Oslo Accords. The crossing has been affected by the Israeli Blockade of the Gaza Strip. At the end of March 2011 Israel permanently closed the Karni Crossing. Garni
Garni (), is a major village in the Kotayk Province of Armenia. It is known for the nearby Garni Temple, classical temple. As of the 2011 census, the population of the village is 6,910. History The settlement is best known for the Hellenistic Garni temple. The area was first occupied in the 3rd millennium BC along easily defensible terrain at one of the bends of the Azat River. In the 8th century BC the area was conquered by the Urartu, Urartian King Argishtis I of Urartu, Argishti I. The fortification at Garni was erected probably some time in the 3rd century BC as a summer residence for the Armenian Orontid and Artaxiad royal dynasties. Later, around the 1st century AD, the fortress of Garni became the last refuge of King Mithridates of Armenia, and he and his family were assassinated there by his son-in-law and nephew Rhadamistus. The University of Nottingham Students' Union (often abbreviated as UoNSU ( /ˈjɒnsuː/)) is the students' union at the University of Nottingham, England. It is a representative body that aims to represent students to both the university and the wider community. The Students' Union is housed in the Portland Building on University Park campus, a building shared with some non-student union activities. The union receives a block grant from the university of over £2 million to support its activities, although the union also raises money through income streams such as the Union shop and a bar. Asher Karni (; born 1954) is a South African and Israeli businessman known for his financial involvement and support for both the Pakistani and Israeli nuclear programs. Biography Asher Karni was born in Hungary. He moved to Cape Town, South Africa in the mid-1980s to work for Bnei Akiva, a Jewish Zionist youth movement. He remained in Cape Town and began work as a salesman, selling and buying electronic devices for a local electronics company. Gilad Karni () is an Israeli violist who has played in the New York Philharmonic and is currently principal viola in the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich as well as a soloist and player in chamber ensembles. A founder member of the Huberman Quartet, with which he made his debut at Carnegie Hall, he has since appeared there with the Guarneri Quartet. Wolf Waldemar Karni (4 February 1911 – 31 January 1996) was a Finnish football referee. Karni was born as Ze'ev Wulf Koseloff and changed his name in 1935. He used to play football and handball in the Jewish clubs Kadur Vyborg and Makkabi Helsinki. Wolf Karni was an international football referee from 1949 to 1955. Karni Liddell (born 1 March 1979) is a Paralympic swimming competitor from Australia. Personal Liddell was born on 1 March 1979 in Rockhampton, Queensland. Information on past Australian Paralympic Games results and profiles on Australian athletes and staff attending the Sydney Paralympic Games. She is a radio presenter for 4BC. At twelve months old, Liddell was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy a rare neuromuscular wasting disease. Karni was misdiagnosed for 40 years and has recently been diagnosed with Congenital Titinopathy which is also a neuromuscular wasting disease. Colonel Karni Singh Rathore, Kirti Chakra, KC (1953–2005) was an officer in the Indian Army. He was also awarded the Kirti Chakra award for his indomitable courage. Military career Col. Karni Singh Rathore was commissioned as an officer in the Rajputana Rifles, 7th Rajputana Rifles, in which his father had also served, and rose to command it. At the time of his death he was posted as a member of the Indian Territorial Army (India), Territorial Army, having served previously with the Assam Rifles. In 1984, he was awarded the Kirti Chakra, the second highest peacetime award for gallantry, in recognition of his service while fighting insurgents.
