''Karnaval'' is a French film directed by Thomas Vincent (film director), Thomas Vincent and was released 3 March 1999. The film was nominated for a César Award for César Award for Best Debut, Best Debut in 2000. At the 49th Berlin International Film Festival in 1999 it won the Alfred Bauer Prize, a prize awarded in memory of the festival founder. Plot While Dunkirk is in the midst of its Dunkirk Carnival, Carnival, Larbi, tired of working for nothing for his father, decides to pack it in and re-make his life in the sun of Marseille. When he is waiting for the first train which is to leave in the early hours of the morning, he makes the acquaintance of Béa (Sylvie Testud), who is with her drunk husband. He is straight away captivated by the young woman and she carries him along with her in her passion for the Carnival. ''Manon'' () is an ''opéra comique'' in five acts by Jules Massenet to a French libretto by Henri Meilhac and Philippe Gille, based on the 1731 novel '' L'histoire du chevalier des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut'' by the Abbé Prévost. It was first performed at the Opéra-Comique in Paris on 19 January 1884, with sets designed by Eugène Carpezat (act 1), Auguste Alfred Rubé and Philippe Chaperon (acts 2 and 3), and Jean-Baptiste Lavastre (act 4). Prior to Massenet's work, Halévy (''Manon Lescaut'', ballet, 1830) and Auber (''Manon Lescaut'', opéra comique, 1856) had used the subject for musical stage works. Massenet also wrote a one-act sequel to ''Manon'', ''Le portrait de Manon'' (1894), involving the Chevalier des Grieux as an older man. Hervé Pierre (born 22 April 1955) is a French actor and theatre director. He joined the Comédie-Française in 2007 and became a member in 2011. On 14 June 2009, Pierre was awarded the title of Best French Actor by critics.
