Karl Heinrich Laas (a.k.a. Charles Laas; April 9, 1892 – ?) was an Estonian actor. ''Kuldämblik'' (The Golden Spider) is a 1930 Estonian musical film directed by Boris Jaanikosk and produced by Konstantin Märska, who was also the cinematographer. The screenplay was written by Hendrik Saar under the pseudonym ''Kivilombi Ints''. ''Kuldämblik'' was Estonia's first film with recorded sound. Speech and singing for the film were recorded on 78 rpm records that could be played in the cinema. Olga Torokoff-Tiedeberg and sing in the film. The bar scenes, which make up the main part of the plot, as well as the advertising for alcohol and tobacco consumption, caused the conservative Estonian Ministry of Education to take action. The film received a warning from the authorities that it was not suitable for young people. The ban on viewers under 16 years of age deterred many cinema owners from including the film in their programs. The short film premiered on March 16, 1930. The Estonian Film Database (, abbreviated EFIS) is an electronic film database launched online in 2012. Its purpose is to thoroughly describe Estonian film heritage, to collect film information about Estonian films, their producers, content, themes, types and genres, directors, actors, and so on, and to make available as much information as possible related to these films and the Estonian film industry. The descriptions of the films are detailed with keywords, which makes it possible to search for information based on various content. The database was made public on December 12, 2012. As of the beginning of 2017, the database contained more than 16,200 full and partial records of films made in Estonia since 1912. The film database was mainly developed in stages between 2011 and 2022 following a specific plan. Background and history ''Vigased prudid'' was the first film based on an Estonian literary work and also the second feature film by the director Konstantin Märska. In the summer of 1928, Märska returned to his homeland from Berlin with years of experience in film work. On February 11, 1929, the newspaper wrote about the intention of the Film-Klub (a club of film enthusiasts founded in 1924) to make a film based on Vilde's story. ''Jüri Rumm'' is an Estonian feature-length film made in 1929 based on Hans Varessoo's 1908 novel of the same name. The film was directed by Johannes Loop. Plot The film depicts the legendary adventures of the Estonian itinerant, thief, and robber Rummu Jüri, who became famous among people in Estonia in the 1880s. The story begins with the corporal punishment meted out to the manor's valet Jüri, which the proud and independent young man does not forgive the gentlemen for. The honor of his beloved Madli is also at stake at the manor, and in order to save her Jüri must risk imprisonment. However, as a skilled and daring man, he remains elusive. The story of the young lovers is intertwined with risky swindles at the expense of the gentry. Like an Estonian Robin Hood, Jüri takes revenge for the injustice done to the peasantry.
