Karl-Erik Persson
Karl-Erik Persson (21 March 1941 – 29 January 2016) was a Swedish politician and trade union leader. Persson joined the Swedish Clothing Workers' Union, and by 1965 was its general secretary. In 1972, the union merged into the Swedish Textile, Garment and Leather Workers' Union, and in 1974, Persson was elected as its president. Under his leadership, the union lost most of its membership, as the relevant industries were in sharp decline in Sweden, and it eventually merged into the Swedish Industrial Union. From 1984 until 1988, he additionally served as president of the International Textile, Garment and Leather Workers' Federation. Berthold Keller
Berthold Keller (8 February 1927 – 28 June 2012) was a German trade union leader. Born in Konstanz, Keller completed an apprenticeship as a tailor, and found work in a local clothing factory. In 1944, he was called up to the army, but was taken as a prisoner-of-war in France in March 1945, and was only released in 1949. Keller returned to tailoring, an in 1952 became involved in the Textile and Clothing Union (GTB), working full-time for the union from 1955. He spent ten years working as executive secretary to the union's president, Karl Buschmann, then in 1972 was elected to the union's executive in his own right. In 1978, Buschmann stood down, and Keller easily won the election to succeed him. As leader of the union, Keller was known as a pragmatist, avoiding industrial action. The textile industry was in rapid decline, 200,000 jobs being lost from 1978 to 1990, and union membership also decreased. Despite this, he became prominent internationally, and was elected as ... Swedish Clothing Workers' Union
The Swedish Clothing Workers' Union ( sv, Svenska Beklädnadsarbetareförbundet, SBaf or Beklädnads) was a trade union representing workers in the garment industry in Sweden. The union was founded on 18 August 1889 in Stockholm, as the Swedish Tailors' Union, initially only admitting men. In 1899, it affiliated to the Swedish Trade Union Confederation and also began admitting women. The Stockholm Women Tailors' Association joined in 1900, followed in 1909 by the Women's Trade Union. Harold Leslie George Gibson (15 July 1917 – 11 January 1994) was a British trade union leader.
