Karindabaylweyn
Karin Dabayl Weyn is a village in the southern Sool, Somalia roughly halfway between Weylahayd to the north, and Qoriley to the south. History Karin Dabayl Weyn (Karin Dabailwein)'s name is listed in a book published in the UK in 1951 describing British Somaliland. In November 2013, it was reported that Karin Dabair Wayne was under the control of the Khaatumo State. In January 2014, one of the three presidents of Khaatumo State, Ahmed Elmi Osman, announced his candidacy for the Puntland vice presidency. Khaatumo, director general of the country's Interior Ministry, who lives in Karin Dabayl Weyn, condemned this. In February 2014, new Somaliland military bases were created in Karin Dabayl Weyn, Dharkayn Geenyo and other locations. Sool, Somalia
Sool (, ) is a disputed administrative region (gobol). It borders Togdheer to the west, Sanaag to the north, Ethiopia to the south and Nugal, Bari to the east. Its capital city is Las Anod. The region is disputed by the self-declared Republic of Somaliland and SSC-Khatumo. The region is partially controlled by both polities. History From 1944 to 1974, the Sool region was formerly Las Anod district. It was one of three districts under British protection. The other two districts were the Burao and hargeysa districts. In 1974 most Sool was part of the larger Nugaal region, with its capital at Garowe. It was established as a separate region in 1984 with its capital at Las Anod. Buuhoodle
Buuhoodle (, ), also known as Bohotle, serves as a significant border town for the movement of goods between Khatumo State, Khaatumo and the Somali Region of Ethiopia. The surrounding district is rich in livestock with growing agricultural activities. Territorial dispute Buuhoodle, the second most important city for the Dhulbahante after Las Anod, is currently under the control of local unionist militia. Despite efforts by the Somaliland administration, the 2021 Somaliland 2021 Somaliland parliamentary election, parliamentary and 2021 Somaliland municipal elections, municipal elections did not take place in the city. Dharkayn Geenyo
Dharkayn Geenyo (Dharkayngeenyo, Darkeyn Genyo) is a town in the southern Sool region of Somaliland. Overview It is located on the Khaatuma State-Ethiopia border. Dharkayn Geenyo is a historical town, it was an important border post during the Siad Barre government period with one of the biggest Somali military bases. The town was the centre of clan skirmishes in 2016 and 2017. Presently, the SSC-Khaatumo administration holds control over Darkayn Geenyo and was recently visited by a delegation led by President Abdikhadir Ahmed Aw-Ali on December 16, 2023. Widhwidh
Widhwidh, also known as Widh Widh, is a town located in the Buuhoodle district of Cayn, Somalia. Overview The settlement is located by road from Buuhoodle. The district was part of the 2010 Ayn clashes on 19 July 2010. History In 1921, Widhwidh was one of many foreign cities. In May 2010, fighting broke out between the Darod-dominated armed group HBM-SSC and the Somaliland forces. On June 13, Somaliland's Foreign Minister described HBM-SSC as a "terrorist group" and said it was responsible for the violence in Buuhoodle and Widhwidh. On June 26, fighting broke out between Somaliland forces and anti-Somaliland forces in Kalabaydh and Widhwidh. Another battle took place in Widhwidh in July. Bo'ame
Bo'ame () is an ancient town in the eastern Sool region. It is the capital of Bo'ame district which includes the small towns of Karin-gorfood, Fardhidin, Dan-Gudban, Caleeli, Buura-wadal and Garaca Dacare and Biriqodayaga. Until May 2022, Puntland has had effective control, then Somaliland took over there. There was a conflict between Puntland and Somaliland in Bo'ame district in August 2022. In early January 2023, the Dhulbahante clan declared Sool and Sanaag regions, including Bo'ame, as SSC-Khatumo state, it belongs to the Federal Republic of Somalia, and requested the Somaliland military to withdraw from the area. Bo'ame is a commercial center for the largely agricultural district. Las Anod
Las Anod (; ) is the administrative capital of the Sool region, currently controlled by Khatumo State forces aligned with Somalia. Territorial dispute The city is disputed by Puntland and Somaliland. The former bases its claim due to the kinship ties between the Dhulbahante clan and the dominant clan in Puntland, the Majeerteen, whilst the latter's claim is grounded on the border of the former British Somaliland Protectorate. The city was the proclaimed capital of Khatumo State throughout its existence until its dissolvement in 2017. Bosaso (, ), historically known as Bender Qassim is a city in the northeastern Bari province ('' gobol'') of Somalia. It is the seat of the Bosaso District. Puntland
Puntland is an autonomous state that considers itself to be part of Somalia, despite not accepting the legitimacy of Somalia's current governing administration. It was formed in 1998, and was a federal member state of Somalia from its founding until 2024. Puntland is located northeast of Somalia and east of Somaliland. Its capital is the city of Garoowe in the Nugal region. The state had a population of 4,334,633 in 2016.
