Karimnagar, also informally known as Elagandula, is a city and District Headquarters in the Indian state of Telangana. Karimnagar is a major urban agglomeration in the state. It is third largest City in the state and Municipal Corporation and is the headquarters of the Karimnagar district. It is situated on the banks of Maner River, Manair River, which is a tributary of the Godavari River. It is the third largest and fastest growing urban settlement in the state, according to the 2011 census. It has registered a population growth rate of 45.46% and 38.87% respectively over the past two decades between 1991 and 2011, which is the highest growth rate among major cities of Telangana. Karimnagar district, also known as Elagandula district, is one of the 33 districts of the Indian state of Telangana. Karimnagar city is its administrative headquarters. The Karimnagar Municipal Corporation is the local governing body, administering the city of Karimnagar in the Indian state of Telangana. It is the Third Most Populous city in Telangana with a population of . The municipal corporation is headed by a mayor and democratically elected members. Gangula Kamalakar (born 8 May 1968) is an Indian politician who served as the Minister of BC Welfare, Food and Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs of Telangana state. He represents Karimnagar constituency as an MLA in the Telangana Legislative Assembly from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi. Elgandal Fort
Elgandal Fort is situated amidst palm groves on the banks of the Manair River (a tributary of the Godavari River), approximately from Karimnagar on the Sircilla Road in the Indian state of Telangana. It was once under the control of the Qutub Shahi dynasty, the Mughal Empire, and the Nizam of Hyderabad, Nizams of Hyderabad. During the Nizam era it was the headquarters of Karimnagar.
