Karen White Case
Karen White, originally from the Manchester area in England, is a rapist. The case attracted national attention after White was remanded to a women's prison, following a knife attack on a neighbour, and was accused of committing four sexual assaults against female prisoners within a 3 month period. White was then moved to an all-male prison in Leeds, while police investigated. The case was raised in Parliament and led to a change in government policy on managing transgender prisoners. Isla Annie Bryson from Clydebank, Scotland is a transgender woman who, prior to transitioning, raped two women in 2016 and 2019, being convicted of those offences in 2023. Bryson was charged, and first appeared in court in 2019, under the name Adam Graham. Shortly thereafter, in 2020, Bryson came out as trans and took the name Isla Bryson. As a trans woman, Bryson was remanded to a women's prison while awaiting trial, and was segregated from other prisoners pending risk assessment. Following a public backlash, Bryson was transferred to a male prison. The case was used to criticize the Scottish Parliament's passage of the Gender Recognition Reform (Scotland) Bill despite it having been blocked by the UK Government (using section 35 of the Scotland Act 1998). Amber McLaughlin
Amber McLaughlin (January 13, 1973 – January 3, 2023) was an American criminal executed in Missouri for the 2003 rape and murder of her ex-girlfriend, Beverly Guenther. At the time of the crime, McLaughlin was living as male; she transitioned from male to female while incarcerated. McLaughlin became the first openly transgender person to be executed in the United States. Her legal name remained her birth name, Scott A. Tiffany Scott (prisoner)
Tiffany Louise Scott (1991/92 – 29 February 2024), born Andrew Burns, was a Scottish sex offender who was subject to an Order for Lifelong Restriction after admitting to stalking a 13-year-old girl by sending her letters while serving time in prison. Scott later identified as female while in prison and then applied successfully to be transferred from a men's to a women's prison.
