Karen Andreasyan
Karen Aresi Andreasyan (; born 10 September 1977) is an Armenian jurist and former politician who served as the Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council of Armenia from October 2022 to November 2024. He served as the minister of justice from August 2021 to October 2022 in Nikol Pashinyan's government. From 2011 to 2016, he served as the Human Rights Defender (Ombudsman) of Armenia. He is also an associate professor of law at Yerevan State University and a member of the Chamber of Advocates of Armenia. They are usually appointed by the government or by parliament (often with a significant degree of independence). Ombudsmen also aim to identify systemic issues leading to poor service or breaches of people's rights. At the national level, most ombudsmen have a wide mandate to deal with the entire public sector, and sometimes also elements of the private sector (for example, contracted service providers). Yerevan State University (YSU; , , ), also simply University of Yerevan, is the oldest continuously operating public university in Armenia. Founded in 1919, it is the largest university in the country. It is thus informally known as Armenia's "mother university" (, ). Of its 3,150 employees, 1,190 comprise the teaching staff, which includes 25 academicians, 130 professors, 700 docents (associate professors), and 360 assistant lecturers. Armenpress (Armenian Press; ) is the oldest and the main state news agency in Armenia. History and profile Armenpress was founded on 18 December 1918 by the government of the First Republic of Armenia as the Armenian Telegraph Agency (Հայաստանի հեռագրական գործակալություն). Simon Vratsian played a major role in the establishment of the agency. Nikol Pashinyan
Nikol Vovayi Pashinyan (born 1 June 1975) is an Armenian politician who is serving as the 16th and current Prime Minister of Armenia, prime minister of Armenia since 8 May 2018. A journalist by profession, Pashinyan founded his own newspaper in 1998, which was shut down a year later for libel. He was sentenced for one year for defamation against then Minister of National Security Serzh Sargsyan. He edited the newspaper ''Haykakan Zhamanak'' ("Armenian Times") from 1999 to 2012. A supporter of Armenia's first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan, he was highly critical of second president Robert Kocharyan, Defense Minister Serzh Sargsyan, and their allies.
