Karel Pečko
Karel Pečko (September 29, 1920 – May 2, 2016) was a Slovenian academic painter and cultural worker. Life and work Karel Pečko received his degree in fine arts by graduating under Gojmir Anton Kos from the Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts and Design in 1954. From 1954 to 1962, he taught art in primary and secondary school in Slovenj Gradec. In 1957 he established an arts pavilion alongside his teaching duties. In 1963, he became the school's principal. From 1975 to 1991 he headed a cultural institute in Slovenj Gradec. He also led the Slovenj Gradec Art Gallery () until 1997. He designed the exhibition programme and invited fine arts critics to participate as selectors, which was unusual in Slovene galleries in the 1960s. Pečko wished to give Slovenj Gradec a cosmopolitan character with the help of the fine arts. Vuhred (; ) is a village on the right bank of the Drava River in the Municipality of Radlje ob Dravi in Slovenia. The parish church in the settlement is dedicated to Lawrence of Rome, Saint Lawrence and belongs to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Maribor. Slovenj Gradec
Slovenj Gradec (; '', ''after about 1900 ''Windischgraz'') is a town in northern Slovenia. It is the centre of the Urban Municipality of Slovenj Gradec. It is part of the historical Styria region, and since 2005 it has belonged to the NUTS-3 Carinthia Statistical Region. It is located in the Mislinja Valley at the eastern end of the Karawanks mountain range, about west of Maribor and northeast of Ljubljana. History ''Gradec'', Slovene for 'little castle', was first mentioned in a 1091 deed, then part of the Imperial March of Styria. The prefix ''Windisch'' (the traditional German name for Slavs in general and Slovenes in particular) was added to distinguish it from the city Graz (whose name has the same etymology). Academic art, academicism, or academism, is a style of painting and sculpture produced under the influence of European academies of art. This method extended its influence throughout the Western world over several centuries, from its origins in Italy in the mid-16th century, until its dissipation in the early 20th century. Gojmir Anton Kos
Gojmir Anton Kos (January 24, 1896 – May 22, 1970) was a Slovene academy-trained painter, photographer, and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. Gojmir was born in the town of Gorizia (then part of Austria-Hungary, now in Italy), where his father, the renowned historian Franc Kos from the vicinity of Škofja Loka in Carniola, taught at the State Gymnasium. His mother was a Friulian from the Austrian Littoral. Gojmir's older brother Milko later also became a prominent historian and chancellor of the University of Ljubljana. Gojmir studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Rudolf Bacher and Julius Schmidt. Due to the collapse of Austria-Hungary, he finished his last semester at the College of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb, where he graduated in 1919.
