Karel Kodejška
Karel Kodejška (born 20 March 1947, in Lomnice nad Popelkou) is a Czech Republic, Czech former ski jumping, ski jumper who competed from 1969 to 1976. He won two medals at the FIS Ski Flying World Championships with a gold in FIS Ski-Flying World Championships 1975, 1975 and a bronze in FIS Ski-Flying World Championships 1973, 1973. Kodejška also competed in two Winter Olympics, earning his best finish of tied for seventh in the Ski jumping at the 1972 Winter Olympics, individual normal hill event at Sapporo in 1972 Winter Olympics, 1972. He also finished sixth in the individual normal hill event at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1974 in Falun. In 1975 he won the Sportsperson of the Year (Czechoslovakia), Sportsperson of the Year award in Czechoslovakia. Ski Flying
Ski flying is a winter sport discipline derived from ski jumping, in which much greater distances can be achieved. It is a form of competitive individual sport, individual Nordic skiing where athletes descend at high speed along a specially designed takeoff ramp using skis only; jump from the end of it with as much power as they can generate; then gliding flight, glide – or 'fly' – as far as possible down a ski jumping hill, steeply sloped hill; and ultimately land within a target zone in a stable manner. Points are awarded for distance and stylistic merit by five judges. Events are governed by the International Ski Federation (''Fédération Internationale de Ski''; FIS). Falun
Falun () is a city and the seat of Falun Municipality in Dalarna County, Sweden, with 37,291 inhabitants in 2010. It is also the capital of Dalarna County. Falun forms, together with Borlänge, a metropolitan area with just over 100,000 inhabitants. Falun was originally famous for its copper mine, and is today an important service and industrial city even though the mine is closed (since 1992). Faluån is a river, flowing through the city, separating it into two sides. Falu copper mine is located on one of the sides which during many centuries was one of Sweden's main business. This side of the river was usually called "the mining side", where not many plants grew due to the toxic smoke which contaminated the soil. Sportsperson of the Year (, ) was a prize awarded annually to the best athletes of Czechoslovakia from 1959 to 1992 by the Club of Czechoslovak Sports Journalists. The first winner was white-water canoer Vladimír Jirásek. From 1961 the prize was also given to the best sports team; the first team recipient was the Czechoslovakia national ice hockey team. Since the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993, the prize has continued in both successor countries as the Sportsperson of the Year of the Czech Republic and the Sportsperson of the Year of Slovakia. The individual prize was usually awarded to a single sportsperson, but on two occasions, two people received it – Eva Romanová and Pavel Roman ( ice dancers) in 1962, and the Pospíšil brothers ( cycle-ball players) in 1979. FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1974
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1974 took place 16–24 February 1974 in Falun, Sweden. This was the second time this city hosted the event having done so in 1954. The women's 3 × 5 km relay changed to a 4 × 5 km relay at these championships. Magne Myrmo's gold medal in the 15 km race, was the last international cross-country championship medal won using wooden skis. Two years later, at the 1976 Winter Olympics, all competitors used skis made of fiberglass.
