Karaikudi Mani
Karaikudi Mani (born Ganapathy Subramanyam; 11 September 1945 – 4 May 2023) was an Indian mridangam player. Early life Ganapathi Subramaniam popularly known as Karaikudi Mani was born on 11 September 1945, in Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu as the son of musician T. Ramanatha Iyer and Pattammal. He became involved with Carnatic music at the age of three and soon abandoned his vocal training in favour of learning the mridangam. Career Mani began performing regularly at a time when another player of the mridangam, his idol Palghat Mani Iyer, was in his prime.Mani first learnt music from Karikudi Ranga Iyengar and later on he took further lessons under the tutelage of Harihara Sharma after moving to Chennai. Karaikudi Mani received his first national award at age 18 from the then president of India, Radhakrishnan. Karaikudi
Karaikudi is the largest city of Sivaganga district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is the centre of the Karaikudi Metropolitan Area, the 21st largest urban Agglomeration of Tamil Nadu based on 2011 census data. It is part of the area commonly referred to as '' Chettinad'' and has been declared a City Municipal Corporation by the Government of Tamil Nadu, on account of the palatial houses built with limestone called ''Kaarai veedu''. which undergoes major developments as part of Government Schemes. Mridangam Players
The ''mridangam'' is an ancient percussion instrument originating from the Indian subcontinent. It is the primary rhythmic accompaniment in a Carnatic music ensemble. In Dhrupad, a modified version, the pakhawaj, is the primary percussion instrument. A related instrument is the Kendang, played in Maritime Southeast Asia. Its a complex instrument to tune and involves a lot of mathematics to construct korvais. During a percussion ensemble, the mridangam is often accompanied by the ghatam, the kanjira, and the morsing. Etymology The word "Mridangam" is formulated by the union (sandhi) of the two Sanskrit words ''mŗd'' (clay or earth) and ''anga'' (limb), as the earliest versions of the instrument were made of hardened clay. ''So Beautiful or So What'' is the twelfth solo studio album by American folk rock singer-songwriter Paul Simon. It was released on April 8, 2011, by Hear Music. The album found Simon reuniting with former collaborator and record producer Phil Ramone. Having experimented with rhythm-based textures for much of the previous two decades, the singer returned to composing songs in a more traditional manner using only his acoustic guitar. These songs were further augmented by experimental recording practices in the studio. The album was largely recorded in a small cottage at Simon's home in New Canaan, Connecticut. The music of ''So Beautiful or So What'' features West African blues-inspired guitar playing, Indian-style percussion, and experimentation with samples, which ranged from an excerpt from a 1941 sermon to nighttime ambience in Kenya. The Australian Art Orchestra (AAO) is one of Australia's leading contemporary ensembles.
