Kannan ( ta, கண்ணன்) is a Tamil male given name. Due to a Tamil tradition of using patronymic surnames, it may also be a surname for males and females. The name is derived from the Hindu god Krishna, who is offered the epithet of Kannan in Tamil, meaning, "the one who is to be seen". Etymology The word ''Kannan'' might come from the Pali into Tamil during the classical period. In Pali, Kanha means dark or black, and the Sanskrit equivalent will be Kṛṣṇa (Krishna). ''Kannan En Kadhalan'' () is a 1968 Indian Tamil-language film, directed by P. Neelakantan, produced and written by R. M. Veerappan, starring M. G. Ramachandran, Jayalalithaa and Vanisri. It was released on 25 April 1968. Plot Kannan is the adopted son of a retired Captain. Sundar is the real son. Mallika is the niece of this rich man, who is engaged, at birth to Sundar. Mallika is secretly in love with Kannan. Malathi lost her father in an accident; she now lives with the widow as her adopted daughter. Malathi and Kannan fall in love as they share good bonding. Kannan Soundararajan (born December 27, 1973) is an India-born American mathematician and a professor of mathematics at Stanford University. Before moving to Stanford in 2006, he was a faculty member at University of Michigan where he pursued his undergraduate studies. Srirangam Kannan (born 5 May 1952) is an Indian musician and artist, known for playing the morsing. He has a degree in mathematics. Profile Vidwan Srirangam S. Kannan was born on 5 May 1952 in Srirangam to K Sathyamurthy and Kamalam. Growing up, he had little experience with Carnatic music. When he was 19 years old he heard a concert where Sri Pudukkotai S. Mahadevan played the morsing. Shortly afterwards, he became Mahadevan's disciple.
