Kannada Cinema
Kannada cinema, also known as Sandalwood, or Chandanavana, is the segment of Indian cinema dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Kannada language widely spoken in the state of Karnataka. Kannada cinema is based in Gandhi Nagar, Bengaluru. The 1934 film '' Sati Sulochana'' directed by Y. V. Rao was the first talkie film released in the Kannada language. It was also the first film starring Subbaiah Naidu and Tripuramba, and the first screened in the erstwhile Mysore Kingdom. It was produced by Chamanlal Doongaji, who in 1932 founded ''South India Movietone'' in Bengaluru. Major literary works have been adapted to the Kannada screen, such as B. V. Jai Jagadish
Jai Jagadish (born 29 June 1954) is an Indian actor, producer and director from the Kannada film industry. Starting his career as hero in '' Phalitamsha'' (1976), he went on to feature in over 300 films as an actor. Some of his most notable films include '' Gaali Maathu'' (1981), '' Garjane'' (1981), ''Benkiyalli Aralida Hoovu'' (1983), ''Bandhana'' (1984) and '' Madhuve Madu Tamashe Nodu'' (1984) among others. In 1990, he turned producer with '' Rani Maharani'' and has produced many successful movies like '' Bhoomi Thayiya Chochchala Maga'' and ''Kothigalu Saar Kothigalu'' won the Filmfare Award for Best film. Balakrishna (Kannada Actor)
Tirumakudalu Narasipura Balakrishna (2 November 1913 – 19 July 1995) was an Indian actor in Kannada cinema. He was said to have a hearing problem and some say that he was totally deaf. However, he would catch the lip movements of the artists and would narrate the dialogues spontaneously. He was popular for his comic and villainous roles in films like '' Kantheredu Nodu'' (1961), '' Muriyada Mane'' (1964), '' Bangaarada Manushya'' (1972), '' Gandhada Gudi'' (1973) and '' Kaamana Billu'' (1983) and appeared in numerous versatile roles over a hundred films that starred Rajkumar in the lead role. Bettada Hoovu
''Bettada Hoovu'' ( ) is a 1985 Indian Kannada-language film directed by N. Lakshminarayan, based on the Shirley L. Arora's novel ''What then, Raman?''. Produced by Parvathamma Rajkumar, it stars her son Puneeth Rajkumar in the lead role. Puneeth plays Ramu, a young boy born into a poor family, who is fond of reading books, but is forced to discontinue his studies and support his family financially. His performance earned him the National Film Award for Best Child Artist. ''Deccan Herald'' rated the film number one among the best "children's movies in Kannada". C. H. Loknath (14 August 1927 – 31 December 2018) was an Indian actor who made more than 1000 Kannada plays and 650 films. Shivaram
S. Shivaram (28 January 1938 – 4 December 2021), popularly known simply as Shivaram or Shivaramanna, was an Indian actor, producer and director whose Kannada cinema career has spanned six decades. He has played roles including lead hero performances, character roles, comedic roles, as well as supporting parts. He teamed up with his elder brother, S. Ramanathan and produced several films under the name Rashi Brothers apart from directing '' Hrudaya Sangama'' in 1972. Roopa, known as Roopa Devi is an Indian actress who has acted in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films. She is the daughter of Kalyanam Raghuramaiah and veteran actress Advani Lakshmi Devi. Jadalathimmanahalli Krishnappa Srinivasa Murthy (born 15 May 1949), known popularly as Srinivasa Murthy, is an Indian actor and television director. He is mostly known for his work as a director having made many television series in Kannada, beginning in 2001, based on the lives of various Kannada philosophers and poets, and adaptations of the works of popular Kannada writers.
