Kang Kyung-wha
Kang Kyung-wha (; born April 7, 1955) is a South Korean diplomat and politician who was the first female Foreign Minister of South Korea under President Moon Jae-in from 2017-21 as well as the first woman nominated for and appointed to the position. She is also the first Korean woman to hold a high-level position in the United Nations. Previously, Kang was the first non-exam-taker to become a director-general at the ministry. She is the first South Korean foreign minister to join the official South Korean delegation for the inter-Korean summit as well as to visit Pyongyang. Kang now serves as the president and CEO of the Asia Society. Early life and education Kang was born in Seoul, South Korea. Asia Society
The Asia Society is a 501(c)(3) organization that focuses on educating the world about Asia. Kofi Atta Annan (8 April 193818 August 2018) was a Ghanaian diplomat who served as the seventh secretary-general of the United Nations from 1997 to 2006. Annan and the UN were the co-recipients of the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize. The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW or UNCSW) is a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), one of the principal organs of the United Nations. CSW has been described as the UN organ promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women. Kim Dae-jung (, ; 6 January 192418 August 2009) was a South Korean politician, activist and statesman who served as the eighth president of South Korea from 1998 to 2003. Korean National Council Of Women
The Korean National Council of Women (KNCW; ) is a women's organization in South Korea, founded in 1959. Along with the younger Korean Women's Associations United (KWAU), KNCW helps coordinate non-governmental organization activities dealing with women's issues and feminism throughout Korea. The Korean Women's movement had been interrupted during the Japanese Occupation of 1910-1945, and emerged again in the late 1940s after the War. In 1959, 64 women's associations united to create the Korean National Council of Women as their umbrella organization. Its purpose was to improve women's rights and status, specifically to reform the revise the discriminating Family Law of 1957 as a united force. The Fourth World Conference on Women: Action for Equality, Development and Peace was the name given for a conference convened by the United Nations during 4–15 September 1995 in Beijing, China.
