Kandapara
Kandapara ( bn, কান্দাপাড়া পতিতালয়) is a village in the Tangail District of Bangladesh. It is the oldest brothel in the country, being founded about 200 years ago, and was the second largest brothel in Bangladesh until the closure of the Tanbazar in 1999, when it became the largest. The area was demolished in 2014, but was rebuilt with the help of NGOs. Overview Kandapara has a total of about 600 houses where between 900 and 1,200 sex workers live. The actual number may be higher as the area has many underage prostitutes and their presence is usually hidden by their mothers or the madams who they work for. Many 12-14-year-old girl come to Kandapara from poor families or are trafficked from various countries in southeast Asia including Nepal. These "bonded girls" are indebted to a madam and are unable to go out of the house or keep any of the money they earn until the debt is paid off. Tanbazar
Tanbazar, or Tanbazaar ( bn, টানবাজার পতিতালয়) was a 2,000-room brothel complex in Narayanganj, central Bangladesh. Until its closure in 1999 it was the largest brothel in the country and 3,500 prostitutes worked there. History The brothel was set up in 1888 during British rule. At the time, Narayanganj was the one of the biggest duty-free ports in Asia. The British who settled there coerced women from villages to provide entertainment for them. Later these women were discarded and socially boycotted. The women gathered in Tanbazar and the brothel became established. A girl of 14, Shab Meher, was brought to Narayanganj from a poor village with the promise of work, but was sold to a ''sadarni'' (madam) of a brothel in Tanbazar. She was tortured when she refused to engage in prostitution, and died from her injuries in the Dhaka Medical College Hospital on 9 April 1985. Tangail ( bn, টাঙ্গাইল জেলা) formerly a small Mohokuma of Greater Mymensingh district is a district (''zila'') in the central region of Bangladesh. In 1969, Tangail district was created by Tangail Mohokuma from its 237 square kilometers of its land and 3177 square kilometers of land from Mymensingh Sadar Upazila, Mymensingh district. It is the largest district of Dhaka division by area and second largest by population (after Dhaka district). The population of Tangail zila is about 3.8 million and its area is . Imam
Imam (; ar, إمام '; plural: ') is an Islamic leadership position. For Sunni Muslims, Imam is most commonly used as the title of a worship leader of a mosque.
