Kandahar International Airport
Ahmad Shah Baba International Airport, also referred to as Kandahar International Airport (, ), and by some military officials as Kandahar Airfield (KAF), is located in the Daman District, Afghanistan, Daman District of Kandahar Province in Afghanistan, about southeast from the city of Kandahar. It serves as the nation's second main international airport and as one of the largest main operating bases, capable of housing up to 250 aircraft of different sizes. The current head of the airport is Maulvi Fathullah Mansour. The airport was built by Americans in the early 1960s. It was occupied by the Soviet Union, Soviets during the 1980s Soviet–Afghan War, as well as serving as the Afghan Army’s 665th Commando Brigade headquarters. Boeing C-17 Globemaster III
The McDonnell Douglas/Boeing C-17 Globemaster III is a large military transport aircraft developed for the United States Air Force (USAF) between the 1980s to the early 1990s by McDonnell Douglas. The C-17 carries forward the name of two previous piston-engined military cargo aircraft, the Douglas C-74 Globemaster and the Douglas C-124 Globemaster II. The C-17 is based upon the McDonnell Douglas YC-15, YC-15, a smaller prototype airlifter designed during the 1970s. It was designed to replace the Lockheed C-141 Starlifter, and also fulfill some of the duties of the Lockheed C-5 Galaxy. Lashkar Gah
Lashkargāh (; ), historically called Bost or Boost (), is a city in southwestern Afghanistan and the capital of Helmand Province. It is located in Lashkargah District, where the Arghandab River merges into the Helmand River. The city has a population of 201,546 as of 2006. Lashkargah is linked by major roads with Kandahar to the east, Zaranj on the border with Iran to the west, and Farah and Herat to the north-west. It is mostly very arid and desolate. Bost Airport
Bost Airport (; ) is an airport serving Lashkargah, a city in Helmand Province in Afghanistan. It is located on the east bank of the Helmand River, north of its junction with the Arghandab River. It is also west of Kandahar. History The airport was established in 1957 with the assistance of the United States. In 2008, a large project commenced to rehabilitate the current airport as well as to create an industrial and agricultural park. The overall budget of this project was US$52 million donated by USAID. On 4 June 2009, the new runway and terminal were inaugurated by a delegation of high-ranking government officials and the ambassadors of the US and the UK. The new asphalt runway is 2,300m long and 43m wide which makes it the third longest runway in Afghanistan. Zabul Province
Zabul (Pashto/Dari: ) is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, located in the south of the country. It has a population of 249,000. Zabul became an independent province from neighbouring Kandahar in 1963. Historically, it was part of the Zabulistan region. Qalat serves as the capital of the province. The major ethnic group are Pashtuns. Primary occupations within Zabul are agriculture and animal husbandry. Qalat Airport (; ; ) is located less than 2.5 miles north from the center of Qalat, the capital of Zabul Province in Afghanistan. It is currently an air base used exclusively by members of the country's Ministry of Defense. Security in and around the airport is provided by the Afghan National Security Forces. Tarinkot Airport (; ; ) is located about of driving distance south from the center of Tarinkot in Afghanistan, next to the Tarinkot-Kandahar Highway. It is a domestic airport under the country's Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation (MoTCA), and serves the population of Uruzgan Province.
