Kalpana Chawla
Kalpana Chawla (March 17, 1962 – February 1, 2003) was an American astronaut and aerospace engineer who was the first woman of Indian origin to fly to space. Chawla expressed an interest in aerospace engineering from an early age and took engineering classes at Dayal Singh College and Punjab Engineering College in India. She then traveled to the United States, where she earned her MSc and PhD, becoming a naturalized United States citizen in the early 1990s. She first flew on the Space Shuttle Columbia, Space Shuttle ''Columbia'' in 1997 as a mission specialist and robotic arm operator aboard STS-87. Her role in the flight caused some controversy due to the failed deployment of the Shuttle-Pointed Autonomous Research Tool for Astronomy ("Spartan") module. Kalpana (2012 Film)
''Kalpana'' is a 2012 Indian Kannada-language comedy horror film directed by Rama Narayanan and starring Upendra, Saikumar and Lakshmi Rai in the lead roles. The film is produced under the banner of Sri Thenandal Films and is a remake of the 2011 Tamil film '' Kanchana''. Saikumar reprises the role of a transgender Kalpana, originally played by Sarath Kumar in the Tamil version. Shruti and Umashri play supporting roles originally played by Devadarshini and Kovai Sarala. The film was released across Karnataka on 28 September 2012 and opened to positive response from critics and audiences. The performances of Sai Kumar and Upendra have been critically acclaimed. The film did well at the box office and was a 'Super Hit' in Mysore, Northern Karnataka, Chitradurga, Bellary districts, while a 'Hit' in other parts of Karnataka. ''Ghajini'' () is a 2008 Indian Hindi-language action thriller film directed by A. R. Murugadoss (in his Hindi film debut) from a screenplay by Murugadoss and Aamir Khan. A remake of Murugadoss' 2005 Tamil film of the same name, it stars Khan, Asin, Jiah Khan and Pradeep Rawat. In the film, Sanjay Singhania (Khan) seeks violent revenge for an attack which killed his fiancée and caused his anterograde amnesia. Kalpana Chakma (born 1 May 1976) was a human rights activist and feminist from Bangladesh who held the position of Organizing Secretary of the Hill Women's Federation. She and her two brothers were abducted on 12 June 1996 from her home at Lallyaghona village allegedly by the members of the Bangladesh Army. Kalpana Chakma is still missing. No one has been tried for her disappearance. She is presumed to have been killed after her abduction. Kalpana Datta (27 July 1913 – 8 February 1995), also Kalpana Joshi, was an Indian independence movement activist and a member of the armed independence movement led by Surya Sen, which carried out the Chittagong armoury raid in 1930. Later she joined the Communist Party of India and married Puran Chand Joshi, the general secretary of the party in 1943.
