Kallar, Kanhangad
Kasaragod ( and Malayalam: , English: ''Kassergode'', Tulu: ''Kasrod'', Arabic: ''Harkwillia'') is one of the 14 districts in the southern Indian state of Kerala. Its northern border Thalappady is located just 10 km south to Ullal, which is the southernmost portion of the major port city Mangalore, on the southwestern Malabar coast of India. Kasaragod is the northernmost district of Kerala and is also known as ''Saptha Bhasha Sangama Bhoomi'' (The land of seven languages) as seven languages namely, Malayalam, Tulu, Kannada, Marathi, Konkani, Beary, and Urdu are spoken, unlike the other districts of Kerala. Kallar River (Pamba)
River Kallar is a perennial tributary of River Pamba, the third longest river in the South Indian state of Kerala. Kallar originates in the forests of Ranni Reserve in the eastern part of Pathanamthitta district. As the name implies the river bed is mostly stony (Kallu+ aar = Stony River). It flows its entire length through rich forests before merging with River Pamba at Vadasserikkara. Small villages such as Thannithode, Thekkuthode and Manneera are the major human settlements along the banks of this river. Kallar (caste)
Kallar (or Kallan, formerly spelled as Colleries) is one of the three related castes of southern India which constitute the Mukkulathor confederacy. The Kallar, along with the Maravar and Agamudayar, constitute a united social caste on the basis of parallel professions, though their locations and heritages are wholly separate from one another. Etymology ''Kallar'' is a Tamil word meaning ''thief''. Their history has included periods of banditry. Kallars themselves use titles such as "landlord", Other proposed etymological origins include "black skinned", "hero", and " toddy-tappers".
