Kalisz Voivodeship (1816–1837)
The Kalisz Voivodeship was a Voivodeships of Poland, voivodeship of the Congress Poland, that existed from 1816 to 1837. Its capital was Kalisz. It was established on 16 January 1816, from Kalisz Department, and existed until 23 February 1837, when it was replaced by Kalisz Governorate. During the January Uprising, the Polish National Government (January Uprising), Polish National Government, announced the re-establishment of the voivodeships with the borders from 1816, reestablishing the administration of the Kalisz Voivodeship within the part of Warsaw Governorate. Congress Poland
Congress Poland or Congress Kingdom of Poland, formally known as the Kingdom of Poland, was a polity created in 1815 by the Congress of Vienna as a semi-autonomous Polish state, a successor to Napoleon's Duchy of Warsaw. It was established when the French ceded a part of Polish territory to the Russian Empire following France's defeat in the Napoleonic Wars. In 1915, during World War I, it was replaced by the German-controlled nominal Regency Kingdom until Poland regained independence in 1918. Following the partitions of Poland at the end of the 18th century, Poland ceased to exist as an independent nation for 123 years. The territory, with its native population, was split among the Habsburg monarchy, the Kingdom of Prussia, and the Russian Empire. Szadek County
Szadek is a town in Zduńska Wola County, Łódź Voivodeship, Poland, with 1,898 inhabitants (2020). It is located in the Sieradz Land. History The oldest known mention of the town comes from 1295, when it was part of fragmented Piast-ruled Poland. It was a county seat and royal town of the Polish Crown, administratively located in the Sieradz Voivodeship in the Greater Poland Province. In 1921, there were 535 Jews out of the total 3,058 residents in Szadek. At that time, the Jewish population was concentrated mostly along Sieradzka Street, where they constituted almost 90% of inhabitants. During the joint German-Soviet invasion of Poland, which started World War II in September 1939, the town was captured by German forces. Under the German occupation, Jews were robbed and subject to forced labour without pay, some working in the community, others sent to labor camps, and Poles were subjected to expulsions and deportations to forced labour. History Of Kalisz
Kalisz () is a city in central Poland, and the second-largest city in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, with 97,905 residents (December 2021). It is the capital city of the Kalisz Region. Situated on the Prosna river in the southeastern part of Greater Poland, the city forms a conurbation with the nearby towns of Ostrów Wielkopolski and Nowe Skalmierzyce.
