Kady Brownell
Kady Brownell (1842 – January 5, 1915) was an American ''vivandière'' who helped the Union Army during the American Civil War. She went with her husband when he joined a Rhode Island regiment. Brownell trained with the soldiers. She fought in battle and helped the injured. At the First Battle of Bull Run, she held the flag high even as Confederate bullets were flying. Early life Kady Brownell was born in 1842 in a tent on a British army camp in Kaffraria, South Africa, of a French mother and Scottish father. Her father, Col. George Southwell, was on maneuvers at the time. She was named after her father's friend, Sir James Kady. Her frail mother died shortly after her birth. She was adopted and raised by a couple until they migrated to Providence, Rhode Island, where she was then raised by family and friends. Kady Dandeneau (born January 25, 1990) is a Canadian 4.5 point wheelchair basketball player. In 2018, she was part of the Canadian national women's team for the 2018 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship in Hamburg. Biography Kady Dandeneau was born in Pender Island, British Columbia, on January 25, 1990. She began playing basketball for the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves in 2007/08. On January 23, 2010, with an average of 18.3 points per game, she was leading scorer in the BC Colleges Athletic Association, when she collided with an opposition player and suffered what was later determined to most likely have been a partial tear in her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). This caused her to miss the next five games, but she returned for the last two games of the season, wearing a brace, and shooting an impressive 26 points in the final match. Kady MacDonald Denton (born 22 July 1941) is a Canadian creator of children's books, primarily an illustrator of picture books. She observed in 2011 that "I'm in that quickly-shrinking group of illustrators who doesn’t use a computer at any stage in the illustration process." Life Denton was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and raised in Toronto, Ontario. She studied at the University of Toronto, the Banff School of Fine Arts, and the Chelsea School of Art. She and her husband live in Peterborough, Ontario. Career Early in the 1990s Denton illustrated three Kingfisher collections of retellings by Ann Pilling, which have been reissued.
