Kadiivka Raion
Kadiivka Raion () was a short-lived raion of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic from 1928 to 1932. Its center was Kadiivka. History Kadiivka Raion was formed in January 1928. In February 1932, when the original Popasna Raion was abolished, some of its territory was transferred to Kadiivka Raion. Raion
A raion (also spelt rayon) is a type of administrative unit of several post-Soviet states. The term is used for both a type of subnational entity and a division of a city. The word is from the French (meaning 'honeycomb, department'), and is commonly translated as ' district' in English. A raion is a standardized administrative entity across most of the former Soviet Union and is usually a subdivision two steps below the national level, such as a subdivision of an oblast. However, in smaller USSR republics, it could be the primary level of administrative division. After the fall of the Soviet Union, some of the republics kept the ''raion'' (e.g. Azerbaijan, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan) while others dropped it (e.g. Georgia, Uzbekistan, Estonia, Latvia, Armenia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan). Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic
The Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, abbreviated as the Ukrainian SSR, UkrSSR, and also known as Soviet Ukraine or just Ukraine, was one of the Republics of the Soviet Union, constituent republics of the Soviet Union from 1922 until 1991. Kadiivka
Kadiivka () or Stakhanov (), is a city in Alchevsk Raion, Luhansk Oblast, Donbas, eastern Ukraine. Residence of Kadiivka urban hromada. It is located on the Komyshuvakha River, a right tributary of the Luhan (river), Luhan. Ukraine renamed the city ''Kadiivka'' in 2016, and refers to the city by this name, however Ukraine has not controlled the city since early 2014. Following their 2022 2022 annexation referendums in Russian-occupied Ukraine, annexation "referendum", Russia claimed the entire Luhansk Oblast, including Stakhanov (Kadiivka), as part of their Lugansk People's Republic (LPR / LNR). ''The History of Cities and Villages of the Ukrainian SSR'' () is a Ukrainian encyclopedia, published in 26 volumes. It provides knowledge about the history of all populated places in Ukraine. It was approved by the Communist Party of Ukraine in 1962 and published for the first time the very same year. The chief editor was the noted scholar and historian Petro Tronko. This is the first thorough historical work of its kind. Each volume covered the history of all populated places in different regions of Ukraine, and at that time they numbered almost 40,000. The encyclopedia played an important role in collecting materials for writing essays about the villages. The encyclopedia was compiled by the State Historical Library of Ukraine together with the NASU Institute of History of Ukraine (part of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, NASU). Popasna Raion
Popasna Raion (; ) was a raion (district) in Luhansk Oblast, Ukraine until its abolition in 2020. The administrative center was the town of Popasna. The last estimate of the raion population was History 20th century On 7 March 1923, the raion was originally created as Komyshuvakha Raion, with its administrative center in Komyshuvakha. It was subordinated to Bakhmut Okruha within Donets Governorate. In December 1924, the administrative center was moved to Popasna, and the raion was renamed to ''Popasna Raion'' accordingly. On 15 September 1930, all the okruhas of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic were abolished, so Popasna Raion became directly subordinated to the Ukrainian SSR. The Donbas (, ; ) or Donbass ( ) is a historical, cultural, and economic region in eastern Ukraine. The majority of the Donbas is occupied by Russia as a result of the Russo-Ukrainian War. The word ''Donbas'' is a portmanteau formed from "Donets Basin", an abbreviation of "Donets Coal Basin" (; ).
