KYYS (1250 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a Regional Mexican format. The station is licensed to Kansas City, Kansas, United States. It is currently owned by Audacy, Inc. and operations are under an LMA with Reyes Media Group. History In Lawrence and Topeka KYYS came on air in 1927 as WREN, operated by the Jenny Wren flour company in Lawrence, Kansas. It operated at 1090 kHz for its first months and then used 1180 kHz, shared with KFKU, the radio station of the University of Kansas. On November 11, 1928, as part of the implementation of the Federal Radio Commission's General Order 40, WREN and KFRU were moved to 1220 kHz. In March 1941, under the provisions of the North American Regional Broadcasting Agreement, the stations on 1220 kHz, including WREN and KFRU, moved to 1250 kHz. KZPT (99.7 FM broadcasting, FM) is a hot adult contemporary radio station licensed to and serving the Kansas City metropolitan area. It first began broadcasting in 1962 under the callsign (radio), call sign KMBC-FM. The station is owned by Audacy, Inc. Its transmitter is located in east Kansas City, and studios are located in Mission, Kansas. History Early years 99.7 FM's historic roots go back to an experimental station, W9XER, which began as an "Apex (radio band), Apex" high-frequency station owned by the Midland Broadcasting Company in Kansas City. In 1937, it was operating on 31.6 MHz, and by 1940 was transmitting on 42.46 MHz. In late 1941, W9XER was converted into one of the earliest FM stations, now transmitting on 46.5 MHz. In 1944 the station received a commercial license as KMBC-FM, and began daily broadcasts that June. In 1946, it moved to 97.9 FM. For two more years, KMBC-FM broadcast on 100.5 FM, until the station was deleted in December 1949. Metro ...
