KYAV-LD, VHF Digital terrestrial television, digital channel 12, is a low-power broadcasting#Television, low-powered television station serving the Palm Springs, California area. Owned by St. Joseph, Missouri-based News-Press & Gazette Company, it is a sister station to KESQ-TV, KESQ, KPSP-LD, KDFX-CD, KCWQ and KUNA-LD. History Founded July 25, 1990, KYAV-LD has been previously affiliated with CNC, a Spanish-language news channel based in Colombia, and Mas Musica, the 24-hour Spanish-language music video channel. It has been an Azteca America affiliate since May 2003 and was purchased by Desert Television in August 2004, owner of local CBS affiliate KPSP-CD, although the station operates under the licensee U-Dub Productions LLC based in Yucca Valley, California. Very high frequency (VHF) is the ITU designation for the range of radio frequency electromagnetic waves ( radio waves) from 30 to 300 megahertz (MHz), with corresponding wavelengths of ten meters to one meter. Frequencies immediately below VHF are denoted high frequency (HF), and the next higher frequencies are known as ultra high frequency (UHF). KUNA-LD (channel 15) is a low-power television station licensed to Indio, California, United States, serving the Coachella Valley as an affiliate of the Spanish-language Telemundo network. It is owned by the News-Press & Gazette Company alongside Palm Springs–licensed ABC affiliate KESQ-TV (channel 42), Cathedral City–licensed Class A CBS affiliate KPSP-CD (channel 38), Class A Fox affiliate KDFX-CD (channel 33.2, licensed to both Indio and Palm Springs), and Palm Springs–licensed CW affiliate KCWQ-LD (channel 2). The stations share studios on Dunham Way in Thousand Palms, while KUNA-LD's transmitter is located in the Indio Hills. 1080i (also known as Full HD or BT.709) is a combination of frame Image resolution, resolution and scan type. 1080i is used in high-definition television (HDTV) and high-definition video. 720p (1280×720 px; also called HD ready, standard HD or just HD) is a progressive HDTV signal format with 720 horizontal lines/1280 columns and an aspect ratio (AR) of 16:9, normally known as widescreen HDTV (1.78:1).
