KXTV
KXTV (channel 10) is a television station in Sacramento, California, United States, affiliated with ABC. Owned by Tegna Inc., the station maintains studios on Broadway, just south of US 50 at the south edge of downtown Sacramento, and its transmitter is located in Walnut Grove, California. KXTV was the second station built in Sacramento proper, signing on in 1955; it served as Sacramento's CBS affiliate for four decades before changing to ABC in 1995. Its early history was dominated by a battle between local newspaper interests and a group of non-broadcasting business owners for the right to operate the channel, which was won by the latter. Owned in turn by Corinthian Broadcasting and Belo before being acquired by Tegna's forerunner Gannett in 1999, the station slowly rose to a second place in local news ratings before falling back to third in the late 2000s. KOVR
KOVR (channel 13) is a television station licensed to Stockton, California, United States, serving as the CBS outlet for the Sacramento area. It is owned and operated by the network's CBS News and Stations division alongside KMAX-TV (channel 31), an independent station. The two stations share studios on KOVR Drive in West Sacramento; KOVR's KXTV/KOVR tower, transmitter is located in Walnut Grove, California. After an application process stretching back to 1948, KOVR began broadcasting in September 1954 from studios in Stockton and a transmitter atop Mount Diablo. The KXTV/KOVR Tower (also known as the Sacramento Joint Venture Tower) is a communications tower in Walnut Grove, California, United States. Built in 2000, it is the tallest structure in California, second-tallest structure in the United States, third-tallest guyed mast in the world (as of 2001), and the eighth-tallest structure to have ever existed. It is owned by Hearst Television alongside Stockton-licensed dual CW/MyNetworkTV affiliate KQCA (channel 58). The two stations share studios on Television Circle off D Street in downtown Sacramento; KCRA-TV's transmitter is located in Walnut Grove, California. Walnut Grove is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sacramento County, California, United States. Founded in 1851 by Chinese immigrants, it served as an important port between Sacramento and San Francisco. It is part of the Sacramento metropolitan area, Sacramento-Arden-Arcade-Roseville Statistical Area. The population was 1,452 at the 2020 census, down from 1,542 at the 2010 census. As one of the only remaining Chinese-American built cities in the United States, Walnut Grove is considered a Historic district of Rome, historical district and National Historic Landmark. Owned by the Capital City TV Corporation, KCCC-TV was Sacramento's first television outlet and broadcast from 1953 to 1957. However, the arrival of new very high frequency (VHF) stations, which unlike ultra high frequency (UHF) outlets did not require special converters to tune on most television sets, limited the station's reach and programming.
