KXSS (1390 kHz) is an AM radio station in Waite Park, Minnesota airing a sports format. The station is owned by Townsquare Media. The radio station’s transmitter is located in Waite Park, serving the St. Cloud metro area. When it was originally brought online in the early 1980s, the studio for the station was near the transmitter site off Highway 23 on the outskirts of Waite Park. The studios were also used for a once local television station WCMN-LP, 13. The studios are now on the eastern side of St. Cloud, shared with several sister stations. Waite Park is a city in Stearns County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 8,341 at the 2020 census. It is part of the St. Cloud Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Waite Park was incorporated in 1893. The city was named for Henry Chester Waite, a state legislator. A post office was established at Waite Park in 1897, and remained in operation until 1972. Stearns County is a county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 158,292. Its county seat and largest city is St. Cloud. The county was founded in 1855. It was originally named for Isaac Ingalls Stevens, then renamed for Charles Thomas Stearns. Stearns County is part of the St. Cloud Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Minneapolis- St. Paul Combined Statistical Area. Minnesota State Highway 23 (MN 23) is a state highway that stretches from southwestern to northeastern Minnesota. At in length, it is the second longest state route in Minnesota, after MN 1.
