KKLE (1550 AM) is a radio station in Winfield, Kansas, and is owned by My Town Media Inc. History On March 29, 2019, Rocking M announced they would sell KKLE and its five sister stations in the Wichita/Wellington/Winfield area to Allied Media Partners, a local group owned by Matt Baty and Tommy Castor, for $6.2 million. Allied Media Partners took over the stations via a local marketing agreement on April 1. The FCC approved the sale in late May; however, the sale was not consummated due to Allied Media Partners’ condition that Rocking M would clear all liens and outstanding debt on the stations in order for the sale to be completed. The completion date would be delayed a few more times, with a final scheduled completion date of October 31. KLEY (1130 kHz) is an AM radio station broadcasting a classic hits format to the Wellington, Kansas, United States, area. The station is owned by My Town Media. 1130 AM is a clear-channel frequency shared by Canada and the United States. History Ed & Zora Hundley's Sumner Broadcasting Company applied for a construction permit for KLEY on June 28, 1965. On November 4, 1966, the station applied for a license to cover its construction permit, and KLEY received its first license on February 6, 1967. Augusta is a city in Butler County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 9,256. It is located east of Wichita along U.S. Route 54 / 400 highway. History 19th century The confluence of the Whitewater River and the Walnut River was originally inhabited by Osage people, who found the land ideal for hunting and fishing. In 1868, C. N. James settled in the area and built a log cabin to serve also as a general store and trading post. KFTI is one of oldest stations in Kansas, dating to 1923, when it was founded as KFKB in Milford by the notorious "goat gland doctor", J. R. Brinkley. Stunting is a type of publicity stunt in radio broadcasting, where a station—abruptly and often without advance announcement—begins to air content that is seemingly uncharacteristic compared to what is normally played. "I Won't Back Down" is a song by American rock musician Tom Petty. It was released in April 1989 as the lead single from his first solo album, '' Full Moon Fever''. The song was co-written by Petty and Jeff Lynne, his writing partner for the album. It reached number 12 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and topped the Album Rock Tracks chart for five weeks, starting the album's road to multi-platinum status. Recording Petty has said the following about the recording of the song: "At the session George Harrison sang and played the guitar. I had a terrible cold that day, and George went to the store and bought a ginger root, boiled it and had me stick my head in the pot to get the ginger steam to open up my sinuses, and then I ran in and did the take."
